Tomorrow, my parents are going out of town, and they’ll be leaving pretty early, so they won’t be able to take me to Mass. I’m within bike-riding distance of the church, but they don’t want me to ride there for some reason. What should I do?
 
Many will say that you should ride your bike to Mass but in so doing, they are also telling you to disobey your parents.

You don’t say how old you are but if you are not yet an adult and have not yet joined the Church then I would say that you should obey your parents in all things. Never speak to them in anger. Always obey and never fight. Never cause them to loose their peace. Jesus was a good son to his mother and father. You should a good son to your mother and father in imitation of him.

Pray for them and thank God that you have parents who love you. Not everyone has that.

Hi,

Can you call a fellow parishoner to take you to Mass? I am sure they will do so if asked. Might be a good time to sneak in Confession too if you can.

My parents wouldn’t want me to do that either, since by asking someone else for a ride, I’d be exposing that my parents aren’t going. I get my license pretty soon, and when I do, I’ll be sure to go.

Then the I would suggest walk it. Yeah when I first converted and did not know anyone at the Church I ended up walking roughtly around 2-4 miles [depening on way I took] to Mass every day and back. Mass started at 0615 hrs, and it was not fun, but it was so worth it.

If you cannot make Mass, if you have EWTN I would suggest watching that. Or if not, then go over the readings and do some prayer or a spiritual communion.

It is not a sin for you to miss Mass seeing that you are obeying your parents and you are trying to do everything that you can do to attend Mass and you do have the intention to attend Mass. So be at peace, no sin here.

Also, I probably should’ve cleared this up. I AM a member of the Church, as are they. They just wouldn’t like me going to church by myself until I can drive.
 
I think a priest would tell you to obey your parents and dispense you from the obligation but that is pure conjecture. I’m a 47 year old altar server, what the heck do I know?

I’d bring it up with a priest. Unfortunately, 1:00 AM Sunday is probably a bit late to call the parish office and ask to speak to Father.

The real question is, why your parents are not wanting anyone to know that they are not going to Mass? If they have a valid reason, could they not get dispensed from the obligation as well? That may not be your issue either.

At a minimum, you are to be congratulated. Most people under 20 (I assume you are a teen) really couldn’t care less about getting to Church. Good for you.
