Help!!

I am a protestant, raised penticostal, My father is a preacher/pastor in the penticostal church.
I on the other hand, am just a christian, I will use no tagons at this time.
My Wife has beleived like me for the past 5 yrs. since we were married. She is now looking to the catholic faith; because most protestant doctrine would tell her that here Grandmother, whom commited suicide several yrs back, is in hell.
She was a devout Catholic before this, andshe cannot understand how this beautiful example of Jesus’ Love would be in hell.
I also am looking, because i would not break up my family for any reason, and if my wife converts, I will as well.

I AM SCARED!

I have been taught nothing but anti catholic doctrine, and I fear that when she converts, and i can tell you she will, I will be in a hypocritic state, because at this time don’t beleive in the catholic faith.
I beleive in the Major things, like Jesus is God made flesh. and no way to heaven only thru Christ.
I am praying that God will either change my mind, or change hers.
Pray with me, as brothers, and sisters in Christ. Pray with me and offer any encouragement you can. Please I implore you for the sake of the cross in my life. answer my plea. :crying:

talitim, you are right the Catholic Church will not judge as to whether your wifes grandmother is in heaven or hell. I’d like to address your anti-Catholic teachings. What is it you specifically opposes of the Catholic Churrches teachings and I’ll address it.

I am a little confused, though. Can you clarify a few things so that we can all better understand?

Why is your wife’s grandmother allegedly in Hell? Because she committed suicide? And from what you said, it’s Protestant doctrine which says this?

You also said that your wife is looking to Catholicism because of this, but she has always been a devout Catholic? :confused: Please clarify!

Here is what I can tell you in general terms; we believe that the only way to heaven is through Jesus Christ, also.

But we deeply believe in the mercy of Jesus Christ and one never knows the true state of someone’s soul. We do believe that suicide is a grave sin, but a few things need to be in place for a soul to be fully held responsible for this type of sin.

Now, in the case of suicide, often the person committing suicide is not in their correct frame of mind…therefore, can they really be held fully culpable for their actions? We don’t know.

We, therefore, cannot judge a single person into heaven or hell…that is for God alone. We can judge actions…suicide is wrong, murder is wrong, both are grave sins…etc.

There is a story about a particular saint who spoke with a woman whose relative had very recently committed suicide. This particular saint (Padre Pio) was a mystic, and he consoled the woman by saying that the person in question made his peace with God between the bridge and the water.

Of course we will never find out in our mortal lives what really happened, but we do belive in the Mercy of Jesus. Maybe this is what your wife is seeing in the Catholic Church? We do have many devotions which relate to the mercy of Jesus, but let me also say that we are taught to be very cognizant of our own failings and we must strive to walk in holiness…not wallow in sin hoping for mercy.

This is a deep topic, so I’m sorry if my post is a little confusing also. There’s a lot of theology and I’m still a little confused about what is going on.

well let me begin by saying my wife and i are studying, from the catechism as well as this site.
I know roman catholics donot worship Mary or any other than Christ, in my head.
I study the Bible, and i can reconsile all doctrine with scripture.
I personally do not beleive in purgatory, yet.
I am strugling with lack of knowledge.
My father is furious with our looking, and says we will have to worship mary.
I know protestant apolegetics. I need Catholic apologetics now,for my own faith, and to defend faith that is only in CHRIST, right?
 
All the protestant ministers are judgemental about suicide. my wifes grandmother was the devout catholic. my wife and I have been devout protestants, until now.

I haven’t written on this thread in a long time, but would like to inform everyone that on OCt. 2006 I was confirmed, annd my wife came through that easter.
I have grown alot, and am so interested in apolagetics. Any ideas?

There’s no need to have fear. God is Love and God is TRUTH. Seek the Truth with an open heart and mind without fear and trust in the Lord and you will find what you seek (even if you don’t know what that is right now!) 👍

Chris, the OP and his wife have become Catholic as of 2006. 🙂 See the last post. The original post was in 2005.

Here is a good article on apologetics. Here is a page with several articles about apologetics.

Both are from the CA library, a great resource, which you can find at the very top of this page, right after “home.” Reading many of the articles there began my journey towards Mother Church. I entered her the same time as you!
