How or what can a guy do do combat the HABIT of masturbation? I mean YEARS of it. Going to confession only to again fall into it, and its a cycle. The urge is almost biological, what can do??? Its really depressing.

I know where you’re coming from.

A couple ideas:
  1. Accountability, outside of the confessional. Have a friend who you can talk to, who will not condemn you, but will hold you to a high standard. Tell him *every time *you fall.
  2. Inner searching. What are you missing, that you seek to find by masturbating? My shrink says that masturbation is nearly always a form of self-medication – an attempt to fill a non-sexual need sexually.
Hope this helps. :o

Thanks, I hope I get more advice here for this habit/vice.

Not too pry too much but when does it seem to be more of a problem than at other times? This can go to the heart of the solution.

theworkofgod.org/Library/Exorcism/exorcsm8.htm

whenever one lives in a serious state of sin for an extended period of time, it can among other things give demons a strong foothold in ones heart. this prayer can help as well as the other things and can help open up ones receptivity to the grace which comes from the sacraments just like all prayer does. God might sometimes use such periods of struggle to call one into a deeper relationship with Him, to call one to deeper faith and love. continue to run to Jesus and humble yourself before Him. He might also use such struggles to call one to a deeper understanding of ones sexuality. if you want a book that i think really seems to help people is christopher wests theology of the body for beginners

More when I am under stress, angry, or nervous. Also, when I don’t control my EYES, and they start wandering to focus on women on the street, (my imagination then acts up) or when I am seeing TV and sexy scenes come up, or when I am sometimes sitting at the bus there is movement which I don’t consent to, but happens.😦

This being said it sounds as if you are using it as a coping method which is not uncommon. Many people will us this as a release for emotional problems related to the ones to stated. For this you need to find another release that is physically exerting such as manual labor or strong exercise.

The second part however is an issue of purity and must be fixed through other means. You need to build habits of turning to Christ when you imagination begins to trouble you with images. As an old Monsignor said to me once while in confession, “those thoughts will cease about five minutes after you are dead.” He is right. It is not the involuntary thought that you should concern yourself with. However, it is the continued thinking about that thought that is the problem.

The only way to fight one habit is to break it with another more healthy habit. So, it is your homework to get a new habit. When these thoughts come to mind at once turn your mind to prayer. Something that will consume not just your thoughts but your imagination such as the rosary or something else that will engage your imagination for prayer. You will fall many more times while trying to build this virtue but don’t worry the Confessional is near. If you work hard at this you will start to see the fruits soon.

yes, but what’s worse is the powerful urge to masturbate that I get. At one point several times a day.
