I do not intend to steal this thread. This message that I post is in support of Roman Catholicism and I think it points out that there is less error in our society if we follow Catholic teaching. These days, the American media are pointing out a “Catholic Church in Crisis” as the US Catholic Bishops are meeting nearby this week Monday through Thursday.
If there ever is a Crisis in the Catholic Church, it will also be a Crisis for Protestant Churches. If it were not for Catholic Churches (Roman, Orthodox, Eastern, etc.), who knows where the Protestant Reformation would be at this point. It would be as if a ship at sea had no anchor – not even a sea anchor – during an immense storm. The presence of Orthodox or Conservative Jewish thinking has also been helpful.
truthbetold: Ask yourself where would these other Churches be?
If it were not for Catholics and Catholic Churches, our society would probably be much further away from the truth at this time. Not only might abortion be common, but euthanasia as well. Perhaps automatic death for anyone beyond a certain age (perhaps 75) or for anyone born with certain deformities or hereditary problems.
mark a:
And early in the 20th century (United States), the ugly but quiet practice of forced sterilizations (retarded or “defective” people) was more frequent in States where a Protestant influence was much greater than Roman Catholic. A similar pattern was also true in Europe. There was and continues to be more safety in the presence of many Roman Catholics.
In America, there are vastly more Protestant Blacks than Roman Catholic. And in many cases, Blacks had taken up the Christian religion of their slave owners. In itself, doesn’t that fact show that there were at best few Roman Catholic slave owners in America (compared to Protestant or Baptist)?
Reading the article “Race, Negro” in the “New Advent” Catholic Encyclopedia got me really upset one night. “Catholic faith and discipline are known to have a wholesome effect on the [Black] race.” Until I realized that the article was written back in 1911.

At this time, I am convinced that Roman Catholic doctrine is the more protective of the Black Race than various Protestant doctrines. For example, the RC stand against birth control, abortion, frequent marriages.Great post. The link is a real eye opener and sure helps keep one from developing a “holier than thou” attitude.
