Forgive me if i’m posting this in the wrong section, but here’s my question.

So my friend has been dating this mormon guy, and I guess he has been taking her to utah a lot and has been taking her to temple. I finally asked her if she was going to become a mormon (she’s Orthodox btw) and she said she doesn’t know but she likes it…

What kind of irritates me is that she never took the time to learn about Christianity, even though ive tried talking to her about it, but is learing about mormonism. I finally told her that i thought mormon beliefs were false and that they weren’t even Christians, so she started questioning me and asking me why do you think this and why that, so I answered all her questions but in the end she says well you’re not mormon so im not going to listen to you about what their religion believes, and as long as people are happy I don’t care what they believe in.

I finally gave up and told her I had nothing else to say :o it’s sad she doesn’t see the true beauty of Christianity or the Church, I really want to help her, anny ideas or suggestions?

Thank you all and God Bless

She sounds as if she makes her religious decisions on a personal, emotional basis. It doesn’t sound like reasoning it out is her focus so far; I don’t know how typical that is for her. Going to Utah with someone is a lot of immersion, and it might have made her more attached to Mormonism emotionally. So, as to what to say, I have no clue. But I wouldn’t try too hard to reason with her if she isn’t really interested. How about just keeping the subject in the air indirectly and being ready to defend the Church?

How about keeping the dialog going, with a smile of course, and saying, “You know, you’re right. I don’t know anything about the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints! What can you tell me about it?”

Keep asking questions of her instead of telling her. Let some of your questions help you learn what she is thinking, and let some of your questions help her think about what she is thinking. If she asks you questions for which you have not an answer, say, “Good question! I don’t know the answer. Let me ask someone and get back to you.” Then ask a priest or someone you trust and get back to her.

Keep the communication going and keep the relationship going, too.

🙂
