Hi Mike, most likely her husband is getting pressured by fellow Jws. Her behavior in their eyes is looked upon as being his failure as the spiritual head of the family.

She needs to do some extensive research on her Christian fatih.
my husband is actually hat JW call disfellowshipped…because we got pregnant before we got married…so when he goes to his"meetings"… no one can talk to him… its really weird

I agree she needs to understand the Catholic faith well enough to not be swayed, but IMO she also needs to put an end to what sounds like constant badgering on his part. He had no right to marry her as a Catholic and then start harassing her about her “false” faith. Does he want to be married to his wife, the woman he picked over all others, or does he want to be “right” at the possible cost of his family?
the thing with this too is that when we were dating… he bought me xmas presents and bday presents… but when we got marrieed…it changed and especially when we had our daughter… so now he is like he needs to not do that becaus it “is confusing me”…he should have never done it in the past. bcuz then i would have seen how serious he was about it and then i prob. woulnt have been with him…also b4 i had my daughter he told me that i could bapttize her catholic… and if he wouldnt of told me that i prob wouldnt have married him …but now he wont sign the paper. he said i could still do it but he doesnt wan a part of it.

The best sources to go to - other than just quoting scripture to him - is other exJWs to find out how they were able to start thinking own their own instead of what the watchtower has taught.

Realistically if he is a faithful JW and has always been that, then it would be HARD to get a conversion especially towards Catholicism since most of their literature is geared toward refuting Catholics. My wife is also a JW although we will probably be getting a divorce - on that note, its not been my decision -I’ve prayed and prayed but ultimately will be glad to get out of that situation (thank goodness we don’t have children).

Really getting a conversion from a faithful JW would take a long process. You may have to not only show them scriptures but also how the Watchtower has contridicted itself over its history. And it would take time and patience to undo all the brainwashing. Plus if his family and friends are in the organization then he would also have to deal with the possibility of losing them due to the Watchtower’s “shunning” techniques.

You find many helpful advice on ex-jehovah witness message boards (many secular but very useful) and also at www.catholicxjw.com for Catholic perspective.

You are in my prayers and I hope that you can accomplish what I could not especially for the sake of your children.
i dont even want him to convert i just want to do what i want to do in my home… i dont want to effect his religion…

My First Question to you is what Translation of the Bible is he using???
This is why??? click here for Stumpers for the Jehovah’s Witnesses

Both of these passage talk about WHOLE HOUSEHOLD or WHOLE FAMILIES being baptized. Children and Infants are part of a family. Therefore children and infants very well could have been in these families and they would have been baptized.

Finally this might help:

I highly suggest you get the book “Catholicism for Dummies” it would be a help to you. I’m sure you would be able to pick up a copy from a Library.
he wants proof of wat scriptures were changed…does anyone know

There are some studies on the mental health of Jws you may want ot look into.

Basically, they are so anti-catholic they call a bulletin board a “kingdom board” because “bulletin board” is a catholic term.

Point out that the purpose of these holidays is to celebrate Christ and what he accomplished in his life ( I cor 15:3-5).

Point out that historical evidence like Piny’s Letters points out that early Christians celbebated christ. Even the foundation of an early church celebrated Jesus.

Look for earily church documents were christ is celebrated.

Basically, there is a large discontinuity between watchtower doctrine, traditons, practices and that of the early church. Your best defense in not scripture, it is history of the church. The church fathers, early councils, creeds and so on. In using the church fathers expect them to quote passages where a father translates proverbs 8:22 as meaning created. That is good because you can enlarge by bringing out elsewhere what that church father really beleives. After all, if they quote a church father as authoritive, and then dismiss him when he contradicts their doctrine then they show that they are only proof texting without reguard for what the church father really believes.

Keep identiflying discontinuities between their doctrine, practices, traditions and so on with the doctrines, pratices and traditions of the early church. The early church is not just represented in the bible.

well he wont listen to anything unless it is in the bible. they go word for word by the bible…anything else is not relevant to him

Glitta Gurl,

Hello and welcome to the Catholic Answers Forums. I hope you have a blessed and fruitful time here.

There are many threads on this forum that deal with the mistakes that Jehovah’s Witnesses have made in their doctrines. If you look around a little, you should find quite a bit. I can tell you off the top of my head that they have changed their Bible to have Jesus say at the Last Supper, “This means My Body” rather than “This is My Body.” Their theology requires it and they have changed the Bible to fit their theology. Another thing that I can tell you is that in Revelation 1 we find John worshipping Jesus, so their premise that Jesus is not God is unbiblical.

A deeper problem, though, appears to be one of respect. If your husband respects you, he should respect your right to practice your faith–including celebrating Christmas, Easter, and birthdays. Similarly, you should respect his right to practice his faith. (I guess this probably means that you go to Christmas parties and leave him at home. You will have to work out the details together.) If you don’t deal with this question of respect soon, it will only get worse later.

I feel like I am stepping out on a limb here, but irrespective of whether he supports you financially and irrespective of whether you love him, he IS your husband and your place is with him. You made some promises when you got married and you are expected to keep them.

Put the Christmas Tree up in the guest room, celebrate brithdays and do anything else that the cult of JW disagree with.
He wants you to respect him…but how is he respecting you and your faith??? He is not!

he wants your repsect …does he even know what the word respect means?
RESPECT:Respect is the objective, unbiased consideration and regard for the rights, values, beliefs and property of all people

Glitta Gurl,

While I hesitate strongly before offering any specific advice–knowing effectively NOTHING about your family situation–I would note that a Christmas tree is more a secular decoration and is not particularly associated with the Christian feast day of Christmas. As such, you and your husband might be able to agree on some Christian decorations and not others.

At the risk of meddling further in what is not my business, and I apologize for doing this, while it is your husband’s job to respect you, it is not your place to demand that he respect you. It works the other way, too; it is your job to respect him, but it is not his place to demand that you respect him.

if he is under “disfellowship” he may be doing these things… It’s what they do… don’t talk to him, make him feel, bad, until he can make it right under “their” eyes.

As far as your daughter being baptized…
Seeing the the sitution is what it is you can baptized her with water and say the words: “I baptized you in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.”

Although, its my understanding that you only need ONE parent to get a child baptized in the Catholic Church.

catholic.com:
To undermine the divinity of Christ in John 1:1, the NWT reads, " . . . the word was a god." Non-JW Greek scholars call this “a shocking mistranslation,” “incorrect,” “monstrous,” and “evidence of abysmal ignorance of the basic tenets of Greek grammar.” Furthermore, Col. 1:15-17 has been changed to “… by means of him all [other] things were created.” If the text were left as the original Greek reads, it would clearly state that Jesus created all things. However, the WTS cannot afford to say that anyone but Jehovah created all things, so it inserted the word “other” four times into the text.

The 1950, 1961, and 1970 editions of the NWT said that Jesus was to be worshipped (Heb. 1:6), but the WTS changed the NWT so that later editions would support its doctrines. The translators now decided to render the Greek word for “worship” (proskuneo) as “do obeisance” every time it is applied to Jesus, but as “worship” when modifying Jehovah. If the translators were consistent, then Jesus would be given the worship due to God in Matthew. 14:33, 28:9, 28:17, Luke 24:52, John 9:38, and Hebrews 1:6.

At the time of the Last Supper, there were over three dozen Aramaic words to say “this means,” “represents,” or “signifies,” but Jesus used none of them in his statement, “This is my body.” Since the WTS denies the Catholic teaching on the Eucharist, they have taken the liberty to change our Lord’s words to “This means my body” in Matthew 26:26.

The NWT also translates the Greek word kurios (“Lord”) as “Jehovah” dozens of times in the NT, despite the fact that the word “Jehovah” is never used by any NT author. It should also be asked why the NWT does not translate kurios as “Jehovah” in Romans 10:9, 1 Corinthians 12:3, Philippians 2:11, 2 Thessalonians 2:1, and Revelation 22:21. If it did translate kyrios consistently, then Jesus would be Jehovah!
Here is just come examples… It’s easy to point out…
Just give him the NWT bible and ask him to read the text, then take him to the PC and go to biblegateway.com and look at what all the other Bible translations say for those verses. (look yourself, before you take him to the PC)

well i tried to tell him these scriptures about the whole family beign baptized…but he says that …jesus is the perfect example…and jesus was older when he was baptized …making a conscious decision into his faith…you guys have been great trying to help…me im going to keep up my arguments… i just wish he was more open minded… its like his deciosions are made, he is right and im wrong…
It’s fine that Jesus is the perfect example.

However, this is what his Apotles were doing they were baptizing whole families. The people that ** walked** with Jesus on Earth was baptizing whole families… Isn’t that interesting???

This must be very difficult for you…I’ll be sure to keep you and families in your situation in my heart during prayer and at Holy Mass.
Go in peace,
lovetony
