Here is what Catholics believe, what part if this do other Christians disagree with?
****1. We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is seen and unseen. ******

**2. We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, one in being with the Father. ****

**3. Through Him all things were made. For us men and our salvation He came down from heaven: by the power of the Holy Spirit, **

**4, He was born of the Virgin Mary , and became man. **

**5. For our sake He was crucified under Pontius Pilate; He suffered, died, and was buried. **

**6. On the third day He rose again in fulfillment of the scriptures: **

**7… He ascended into heaven **

**8. and is seated at the right hand of the Father. **

**9.He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, **

**10. and his kingdom will have no end. **

**11.We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son. With the Father and the Son, He is worshiped and glorified. He has spoken through the Prophets. **

**12. We believe in one, holy, catholic, and apostolic Church. **

**13. We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. **

**14. We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen. **

Nicene Creed

Aside from non-denominational and Baptist churches, every single church I have ever attended has said this creed.

The problem is not with what is in the creed; those are basic Christian beliefs. The problem is in things that go beyond it.

No, the problem is in the Creed being “One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic church” this is the Catholic church. By professing this Creed, do you not realize that only the Catholic church was at the time of Christ? These four words are the pillars of the Catholic church.

Many ProtestantChurches say the creed, they take the word Catholic to mean Universal Church.

The difference does not lie in the creed, it is things we can’t back up with scripture. Mostly traditions that protestants don’t understand.

The main difference lies the structure of Leadership.

We do not believe that any man is Sinless. Paul states that “ALL have sinned and come short of the Gloy of God” . Please don’t take this wrong, but we don’t see any difference between The Pope and Billy Graham. they are both mighty men of God and leaders of the Church.

We do not believe that any one Church is right and all others are bound for hell. John 3:16 states clearly 'that whosoever believes on him shall be saved". We totaly reject Islam because they reject Christ and God Jehovah.

We do not believe that any man can forgive your sins, Acts tells us "There is only one name under Heaven by which a man may be saved, and that is the man Jesus Christ.

I personally I have always felt that the protestant churches don’t give enough credit to mary, while the Catholics give her too much. She was of course a special virgin, but she did not go to the cross for my sins. Therefore I do Pray direct to Christ not mary.

That is the same reason we do not pray to saints.

We beleive that Peter was the first pentecostal preacher on the day of Pentecost he spoke in tongues.

And lastly we believe that communion is symbolic, Jesus said “This do in Remberence of me” not literal eating of his flesh. I am aware of the scripture wher Jesus refered to that, but he was not talking in literal terms anymore than when he said if your eye offens you pluck it out.

I have tried to give honest answers, it is not my intention to offend anyone.on this web site.

My desire is that all people of God would stand together and take back our Country from the Aclu et all.

This is why the world will never unite because of our differences. You are misguided my friend, no disrespect, you hear what your “pastor” tells you which is wrong.
And please don’t compare my pope to Billy Graham. My pope sits on the chair of St. Peter himself…what does your pastor sit on? Officemax? Where is the authority of your church?
Don’t you understand that Catholicism was the religion Christ started and the reason why you are a Protestant is because of Martin Luther and King Henry, not because of Christ himself?? Doesn’t that bother you?

🙂 hi revwd01 that you do not ask for the prayers of the saints is to your own loss. if you have ever asked any one to pray for you;you have denounced the reason you gave for not asking the saints for their help. remember 2 praying together is always better than one. right? thanks for your post

The Protestants has reinterpret the Creed in such way it takes away from the original context.
The difference does not lie in the creed, it is things we can’t back up with scripture. Mostly traditions that protestants don’t understand.
The Truth Church of Christ has four marks. It is One, Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic. Protestant churches lack any apostolic succession. They cannot trace their history to the Apostles.
We do not believe that any man is Sinless. Paul states that “ALL have sinned and come short of the Gloy of God” . Please don’t take this wrong, but we don’t see any difference between The Pope and Billy Graham. they are both mighty men of God and leaders of the Church.
No Pope is sinless. In fact Pope John Paul II goes to confession every week. I don’t know about Pope Benedict XVI but I would assumed he also go on a weekly basis. It only proves to show that he isn’t perfect. He has his short comings.
We do not believe that any one Church is right and all others are bound for hell. John 3:16 states clearly 'that whosoever believes on him shall be saved". We totaly reject Islam because they reject Christ and God Jehovah.
Jesus established One Church and he promised St. Peter that the gates of hell shall not prevail against his Church. Your statement that no church is right contradict Jesus’ own promise.

We do not believe that any man can forgive your sins, Acts tells us "There is only one name under Heaven by which a man may be saved, and that is the man Jesus Christ.
The priest themselves are instrument of God’s saving grace. They forgive sins because Jesus granted the Apostle to forgive sin and retain them.

John 20:19-23

On the evening of that day, the first day of the week, the door being shut where the disciples were, for the fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood among them and said to them, “Peace be with you.” When he had said this, he showed them his hands and his side. Then the disciples were glad when they saw the Lord. Jesus said to them again, “Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, even so I send you.” And when he had said this, he breathed on them, and said to them, "Receive the Holy Spirit. If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven; if they are retain the sins of any, they are retain."

Jesus gave this authority to his apostles alone. The bishops and priest of today are the successors of the Apostles, and they were given the power to forgive sins.

In the Sacrament of Reconciliation, Jesus is present. He forgives the sins. The words of the absolution states:

"God, the Father of mercies, through the death and resurrection of his Son has reconciled the world to himself and sent the Holy Spirit among us for the forgiveness of sins; through the ministry of the Church may God give you pardon and peace, and I absolve you from your sins in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen."

The priest forgives in Name of God, he does not forgive in his own name. God forgives in this sacrament.
I personally I have always felt that the protestant churches don’t give enough credit to mary, while the Catholics give her too much. She was of course a special virgin, but she did not go to the cross for my sins. Therefore I do Pray direct to Christ not mary.
Mary points us to Jesus. If she is good enough for Jesus, she is good enough for me and you. In fact, Jesus gave Mary to us at the foot of the cross. “Man, behold your mother.” She is my spiritual mother.

Mary didn’t go through the cross. Jesus did. Mary did had her soul pierced when she witness her only son being nailed to the cross.
That is the same reason we do not pray to saints.
Praying to saints is no different than you asking me to pray for you. When we pray to the saints, we pray together and lift up our hearts to God.
We beleive that Peter was the first pentecostal preacher on the day of Pentecost he spoke in tongues.
Peter is a Jewish Christian. He is the first Pope.
And lastly we believe that communion is symbolic, Jesus said “This do in Remberence of me” not literal eating of his flesh. I am aware of the scripture wher Jesus refered to that, but he was not talking in literal terms anymore than when he said if your eye offens you pluck it out.
Well, the difference in John 6:53-66, is that he told us to eat his flesh many times and the Jews were having difficulty understanding him. This is not symbolic. This is Real Presence. I also like to add that 1 Corinthians 11:27 also enforces the belief of Real Presence of Jesus Christ in Holy Communion.

You are being honest, but many of your belief are foreign to First Century Christian belief.

1st, who told you Catholics believe the Pope is sinless? He goes to confession about once a week! Like most Protestants, you don’t know what Infallibility actually means. 2nd, when St. Paul said ALL, he didn’t mean every single human ever born on this earth. If he did, it would mean Jesus himself sinned, as well as newborn babies and children below the age of reason and the mentally handicapped whose mental ages are below the age of reason. St. Paul was using hyperbole to make a point.

We do not believe that any one Church is right and all others are bound for hell. John 3:16 states clearly 'that whosoever believes on him shall be saved". We totaly reject Islam because they reject Christ and God Jehovah.

Who told you Catholics believe all nonCatholics are bound for hell? Like a lot of people (Catholic and non), you don’t understand what “no salvation outside the Church” really means. Everyone who is saved is saved BECAUSE of the Church, because Christ founded the Church as the normal channel for His saving Grace, even if they don’t recognize it and aren’t formal members. Unlike fundamentalists, we believe that there are people who have never heard of Christ who could possibly go to heaven.

We do not believe that any man can forgive your sins, Acts tells us "There is only one name under Heaven by which a man may be saved, and that is the man Jesus Christ.

**Sigh. Your misundstanding of Catholicism continues. We don’t believe men can forgive sins, either. God forgives our sins, but he does it through the priest, who acts “In Persona Christi”, in the person of Christ. Christ gave His apostles this power to forgive or to retain sins in His name, which indicates they had to HEAR them first, and this was passed onto their successors, down to the present day Bishops and priests. **

I personally I have always felt that the protestant churches don’t give enough credit to mary, while the Catholics give her too much. She was of course a special virgin, but she did not go to the cross for my sins. Therefore I do Pray direct to Christ not mary.

That is the same reason we do not pray to saints.

** Catholics don’t pray to Saints or Mary, either, we ask them to pray with us and for us, because, being up in heaven (and, in the case of Mary, being Jesus’ mother), they are perfect in their relationship with God. If you have a problem with this, I assume then that you also never ask anyone on earth to pray with or for you. And don’t say they are dead and can’t hear us. God is the God of the living, the Saints are not dead, and they can hear us because God allows it.**

We beleive that Peter was the first pentecostal preacher on the day of Pentecost he spoke in tongues.

**I don’t have a problem with that. Although I’d call him the first Charismatic Catholic preacher 😃 **

And lastly we believe that communion is symbolic, Jesus said “This do in Remberence of me” not literal eating of his flesh. I am aware of the scripture wher Jesus refered to that, but he was not talking in literal terms anymore than when he said if your eye offens you pluck it out.

The phrase “Do this in remembrance of Me” in no way implies symbolism. Neither does the word “spirit”, when Jesus says His words “are spirit and life” in John 6. Jesus also used VERY strong language in John 6 when he tells us to eat His Body and drink His Blood, which, if taken metaphorically in the language of the time, would mean to verbally assault and batter him (“unless you verbally assault and batter me you have no life in you” ). He lost followers because they took him literally. Christ never let disciples go because of misunderstandings, He always explained what He meant WHEN HE WASN’T SPEAKING LITERALLY. In John 6, He was speaking literally, and EVERY Christian believed that until the 1600’s.

Dear Ellen.

Thank you for your response. To answer your quesions “Who told you”. Actually it was my Catholic neighbors. According to them they learned in the classes they took.

These are the same people who will party on christmas eve and stagger over to church for Mid Night mass so drunk they can hardly walk. I notice in their home in the mist of the Jim Beam and Vodka bottles on the bar is a little plastic Jesus.

I remember in Vietnam the Catholic soldiers referred to the Catholic Chaplain as “The Town drunk” because they had to carry him to his tent every night. And he never had confession until the afternoon because of a hangover.

Is holy living not an issue for Catholics?

BTW when Paul was writing to the Romans about Sin, he was not referring to the resurrected sinless Christ.

As to asking people for Prayer. My Sister had her Blind eye opened when the Church Prayed for her. My wife was healed from melenoma Brain Cancer when the Church prayed, even though 8 Doctors said she would not live to see daylight. She lived 9 years
after that day.

Do we ask people to pray with us? You bet we do, but we Pray to Jesus himself after all he is Jevoha Ropha our Healer. I don’t understand why you have so many levels of people dead and alive to get to Jesus. All you have to do is ask him. He said come unto me and I will give you rest.

Blessings

They were not properly Catechized my friend. You can’t assumed all Catholics to know their faith. If you want the truth of our teaching, you either buy yourself a copy of the Catechism of the Catholic Church, or the Baltimore Catechism.

Human beings are sinners. Give the priest a break. You judge too much. Are you any less perfect? I’m sure, you aren’t saintly as that drunken priest.

Catholics are called to be Holy. We are called to live our faith by loving God, and obeying his commandments out of love for him.

Suffering is part of being a Christian. Jesus did say we must take up our crosses. I’m sure your sister is in the Master’s house prepared for her.

God is not the God of the dead. God is the God of the living. The saints in heaven are more alive than us. For we are surrounded by a cloud of witnesses.

Blessings

🙂 hi revwd1 saints are not dead people God is the God of the living. “it is in dying we are born into eternal life. St Francis of Assi” that is in scripture God is the God of the living

Hello HannahLisa,

The “Bible alone” crowd does not believe in the “Creed”, if they did, they would not be Bible alone (Sola Scriptura, which is what many here claim to be) ….

Calvin believed; if the Bible does not say “you can” then “you can’t”.

Luther believed; if the Bible does not say “you can’t” then “you can”.
🤷

Thanks again!

I have not personally read enough of Calvin to know exactly what he thought on this matter. However, he is not viewed as infallible and most in the Reformed tradition accept the Apostle’s Creed and the Nicene Creed as summaries of what is contained explicitly or implicitly in the Bible.

As far as I know Reformed (ie descending from Calvin) have always used confessions and creeds. In fact they are probably some of the most prolific confession writers around. For example, the Westminster Confession, the Helvetic Confession, the Belgic Confession and the Heidelberg Catechism.

Just curious, but if Calvin isn’t viewed as infallible, why would people follow his teachings? Wouldn’t they be taking a major risk?

Just because he might have gotten some things like limited atonement wrong does not mean that he did not get some things right too. Similarly just because we view the Catholic Church as having made some errors does not mean that Protestants don’t keep what it got right.

I find it AMAZING at your use of capitalization in your post. You never once capitalized Marys name.through out your post you did it for a lot of other things but not Jesus mother.I think that speaks volumes about you true feelings for her.Im sure Jesus would have a problem with you dissing his mother .

I am guessing by “bible alone” you mean sola scriptura.

If you do, than you don’t understand what the reformers taught about sola scriptura.

The Westminser Confession, London Baptist Confession, Belgic Confession, etc. all came from the reformed camp which strongly believed in sola scriptura. So, in short, it’s completely untrue to say that sola scriptura rejects the creeds. BTW, Calvin commented on the Nicen creed.

#12, lol…but I’m just pointing out the obvious.

Most Christian denom’s believe what the Nicene Creed states. It’s certain Catholic practices that other Christians believe are non-biblical. However, as I have learned, some of them are very bible-based, and other Catholic practices were committed by the apostles. And in all actuality, sola-scriptura itself is not really a biblically-based concept.

AND yes, I just got through reading ‘By What Authority: An Evangelical Discovers Catholic Tradition’. Good book. God bless.

Actually, Lutherans, Reformed/Presbyterians, Episcopalians, and Methodists all accept the Nicene Creed.

The sources of doctrine for these churches:
Lutherans and Methodists are sola scriptura; Reformed are Scripture and “the Church’s historical confession of faith” (whatever that means); and Episcopalians are Scripture, the Apostolic Church, and the ECFs.

Baptists reject the creeds and are perhaps the only true “Bible alone” crowd.
