Few on this forum seem to want to acknowledge how dark and deep and sordid the scandal runs in the church.

Bring these cases out into the open, please, so healing can begin

This is a constant reminder that the evil one prowls about, seeking someone to devour. He attacks the truth, not lies. Evil is real. Hell is real.

Need we more proof?
 
I see. If my remarks count as a joke – though I am not sure that they do – they still communicate two truths.

There are sinners in every nation. I have the expectation that every state of the US, and every nation of the world, will eventually be found to have such evils. The sporadic, uncoordinated nature of the reports, one state at a time, one country at a time, serves to prolong and magnify the agony. It is like cutting off a cat’s tail just one centimeter every month.

And “Heaven help us” is a short prayer as well as an expression of faith and hope, sincerely meant.

I will be pleasantly surprised, and I will sing praise to God, if any region is found to be relatively free of this scourge.

One thing to remember is that Christ died for these men as well. Not excusing their actions, we must pray for them as well as the victims of their sins, that they may all are it to heaven.
 
As best as I can understand, the church policy was to keep these incidents secret. To keep the church from scandal. This was wrong headed but it went on for as long as any of us are alive. So every diocese has cases. We will see how well we can withstand the scandal.

I don’t know if it was “church policy,” but it sure does seem like a lot of bishops shared this view with one another.

That is pretty much it in a nutshell. There must have been a time, when this is how it was handled. The victims got hush money, which they took. It hurts to say that, and it hurts to hear it, but there must have been a time, when that was how it was done, with the intention of saving the church from scandal. That isn’t me defending it.

The REALLY ugly thing is, they had no place to put these guys. Treatment and then what?

Now hush hush doesn’t cover it, especially with “me too.” I can’t help but think of one of my favorite Shakespeare quotes.

There must have been a moment, at the beginning, where we could have said – no. But somehow we missed it.

Not only was it coveted up…thosevwho did were promoted and kept propagating left wing lgbtq anti marriage doctrine. So this was not just an oversight. But something systemic deep.rooted and evil.
 
Indeed, regrettably, there are; about 20yrs ago ‘we’ had the [Lord] Nolan Report that covered/investigated sexual abuse in the various offices and organisations within the Catholic Church in England and Wales. It was a fulsome report, that was acted upon, but I’m not sure just how effective the remedies have been - I feel that what it has done is cut down the incidences, thankfully.
