Going to mass and practicing your faith is like hockey practice. You go to hockey practice to prepare for the big game and you practice the faith to prepare for Heaven

Thoughts?

Lol, as a former hockey player I can relate to this. Though it’s hard to explain Catholic spirituality with sports analogies, let’s try!

I’d say that the big game is the Kingdom of God, heaven is more like getting picked for the team.

Also, we battle with evil, small and large, in our daily lives – practicing is needed for this. Practicing the faith brings God into our lives. Jesus said, “the Kingdom of God is among you.” Maybe he meant something like that?

So we practice our faith to be able to resist evil, and bring the Kingdom of God on earth. At judgment day, God will pick us for the team of the final Kingdom of God if we made the cut during our lives.

So to sum it up, practice is so that we can win small and large games at a local level, and eventually so that we are good enough to be picked for the elite team!

Ok, I hope that that wasn’t blasphemous!

Well… yeah, but…

At Mass, we’re already experiencing the Banquet of the Lamb in Heaven – we’re already at the big game, not just “preparing for it”! 😉

Relating it to HOCKEY! Perfect 😃 I do agree with what you’re saying. Good analogy.

I disagree. The call to love God and love your neighbor and your enemies is not “practice”, but the actual “game” itself. We’re not preparing to go somewhere, we’re called to do right here and right now.
