Did the hermits who would go and live alone in a cave in the desert receive any sacraments?

Who could forgive their sins if they commiedt mortal sin? They didnt need confession and praying to God was enough for them?

What about the eucharist?

thanks.

Hermits went out and lived away from everyone way before there was private confession. In the early church, you confessed your sins in public. Folks waited until they were just about dead to be baptized and all their sins were forgiven. Confession as we know it did not come along until much later and began with the Irish. I am not exactly sure how they received the Eucharist, but folks would go out to visit the hermits and were amazed at their holiness. This is how they could have received. A friend of mine has a 2nd home in Idaho and there is a resident hermit out in the woods, who prays for everyones intentions, if they ask him. They see him from time to time. I think he shows up at Mass.

May God bless you

When I was in Poland I remember seeing a hermit. He lived right by the Kalwaria Zebrzydowska shrine[the Pope’s most favorite childhood shrine, 10 miles from his house]. He lived out in the forest near the Shrine and came in to say the public stations of the cross and for Mass and confession. He told us that he has been living like that for 70 years since 1930,[this was during 2000]!!!
