Hey Catholics and Non-Catholics! Let's Show our Love for Jesus!

Frankly, while some say they don’t worship Mary take a look at most Catholic websites: whose image is more prominent: Mary’s or Jesus’? Take this forum for instance, whose image is in the upper left-hand corner? Mary’s. Why is it that Mary is always exalted and shown with a crown or stars around her head but Jesus is always portrayed as either a weak, helpless infant in her arms or as a weak, helpless, even emaciated looking man hanging on a cross? Why is Jesus not portrayed as victorious? He was you know! He is no longer on the cross.

So let’s give the glory to where it’s due, surely Catholics and non-Catholics can agree on that, right?

I’ll get us started with some appropriate verses:

Rev 5:12 In a loud voice they sang:
“Worthy is the Lamb, who was slain,
to receive power and wealth and wisdom and strength
and honor and glory and praise!”
Rev 5:13 Then I heard every creature in heaven and on earth and under the earth and on the sea, and all that is in them, singing:
“To him who sits on the throne and to the Lamb
be praise and honor and glory and power,
for ever and ever!”
Rev 5:14 The four living creatures said, “Amen,” and the elders fell down and worshiped.

Heb 13:15 Through Jesus, therefore, let us continually offer to God a sacrifice of praise–the fruit of lips that confess his name.
 
You’ve obviously never seen the many images our churches have of Christ as Pantocrator, or ruler of the universe, if you think he’s only ever portrayed as weak and emaciated.

Does the below look like a ‘weak’ or ‘emaciated’ Christ to you? Yet it is the ‘Sinai Christ’, one of the most popular images of Jesus in the Christian (or at least the Catholic/Orthodox, not that I expect you really know much about either) world … 🤷

I see Jesus in the upper left hand corner.

I love Jesus by being a member of His Bride and by obeying His Commandments and by making use of His Sacraments. I pray to Him and I thank and adore Him.

I bear my crosses and implore His help when I am tempted. I do not doubt Him. I trust Him. I do pennance for Him.

That does not mean that I will accept a false dichotomy that attempts to argue that showing love and respect to His Mother ‘takes anything away’ from** Him**.

Include me out on that little error.
 
Should we get rid of the part of the Bible that speaks of Jesus’ crucifixion then? Should we get rid of Good Friday?

I mean, that event has passed, why keep remembering it?

I’m guessing yeshualuver’s bible doesn’t have the passages where Paul preaches Christ and Him crucified, or where we are told to glory or boast in nothing save the CROSS of Christ … :rolleyes:
 
Love makes **room **for another.
Make huge **room **for Jesus inside.

John 14:2
“In My Father’s house

It was on the cross that Jesus saved us, there is no greater love than that. We look on the cross like the Israelites in the desert looked on the image of the serpent to be healed. He was lifted up to draw us to himself, to heal us from our sins. This is a most powerful image, not a weak one.

The image of Jesus as an infant, sometimes mostly naked, emphasizes that he is truly man. There was an early heresy that said Jesus only appeared to be human. But we know that he was true God and true man, like us in all things but sin.

The image of Mary is like that in the Book of Revelations of a woman clothed with the sun with a circle or crown of stars on her head. She is crushing the serpent under her foot. She gives birth to a Son (Jesus).

We know that Mary is like the moon. She reflects the light of God. It is God who is the sun.

You take offense at the images you see because you don’t understand what they mean to Catholics. When we see the empty cross we think it looks bare. We aren’t saved by the empty cross; we’re saved by Jesus’ death on the cross. That’s what we’re reminded of whenever we look at a crucifix.

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit…

The victory of Christ is by his death. No death no victory. Unlike the conventional wisdom of man, if you want to truly show his victory, it is his death on the cross. When I see Jesus hanging on the cross, two things come to mind – his victory and his loving sacrfice for me. It’s impossible not to love this God.

How I wish that you’d understand this powerful imagery of the victorious God.

And of course, the empty cross too, for He is risen.

So, sure, let give the glory to where it’s due:

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit. As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

Funny though I have never heard Protestants saying this proclamation in their worship.

The congregation at the Congregationalist Church when I was growing up sang this. Probably still do. …They also did a form of the Sactus. “Holy, Holy, Holy, Lord God Almighty…”

Should that statement not be the other way around? Who are you loving first?

Shouldn’t we love the mother because we love the Son?

Don’t twist my words.You are putting forth a semantical arguement and are imputing that the only reason iI love Christ is because I loved His mother first which is a blatant and odious falsehood besmirching me and my faith.I demand an apology.

One doesn’t love ones spouse the same way one loves ones parents or ones children. In the same way, there is no, “who do you love first,” when it comes to the Mother and the Son; it’s a different kind of love. The Son is God. The Mother is the Mother of God. The Mother of God is not God but She is our Mother and She is God’s Mother. We love Her, but, not in the same way we love God, but, not in a secondary way, but rather a primary way for the Mother.

Gotcha;) Wasn’t trying to rude. I thought that was what it meant. Just wanted to clarify rather than making a rude statement that assumed I knew what was meant by it.
