Hi,
You can say that you’ve been disrespecful of others and said horibble things to them. And the being bad thing the things you listed are fine to say. Is this your first time to confession?
Saying you used Jesuses name needlessly and thoughtlessly is good to say. And remember things that you forgot are forgiven. But don’t accept the eucharist in a state of mortal sin. I am worried I have done this, and I am going to my 2nd confession this Saturday. But when you do go to confession you will feel so much better. I get depressed when I have sinned and I am going to confess my venial sin at my 2nd confession. Venial sins don’t need to be confessed, but it’s good to do so. Saying you didn’t respect other peoples things is good for saying you crushed a guys Juice Popper at school, and smashing your ps2 controller. But I don’t think they would be sins. I have didn’t respect for food either I still don’t sometimes, like I would throw pieces of my food away. And you don’t need to give detail in confession, only if you want too. I would say the right things in confession. And take notes write your sins down and read them when you are in confession thats what I did and its a good thing to do.

from, amy.

Well there are plenty of things you shouldn’t be looking at, so you need to be a little more specific. You can say ‘I looked at x-rated/adult magazines/films/whatever’ if it’s the actual p-word that’s the problem. You don’t need to say more than that.

Don’t be scared, there isn’t any that your priest wouldn’t have heard confessed before - they really do hear it all in confession. And remember Jesus is there with you, it’s important to confess fully and properly to HIM.

I really will try to confess everything i have written down everything i can think of and explained each one shortly and nicely.

the main Problem is i feel like when i write the things down i feel if like that if they are not correct things like something well in other words i think that the things i will say might not be right and i will not be forgiven for it can this happend or if god knows what you mean by that will he forgive you anyway but its not like i havent sorted everything out whenver i write something i make it longer and longer and longer and now ive come to a points where i will stop I have written i said (name removed by moderator)olite things to and about my parents, friends’brotehrs and sisters and others but i did say once i dont like one of the priests and i really dont want to say that to one of them so are they included to the others part i dont see how it isnt because by that i mean all the other people who i havent named that i have said (name removed by moderator)olite things to and spoken about them (name removed by moderator)olitely like teachers etc really if i were to make a list it would go on for miles but i dont want to say the preist.
And once i said I something about a priest that i didnt like who used to come to our school and i said something about hime to my parents which wasnt true and this year i went back and told my mum that it wasnt true and i lied about it would saying i have lied do saying all the times i lied is impossible and if possible it would go for about 5min straight.
And when i say i masturbated do i have to say how many times or is saying that you masturbated enough for the priest to know??

Theres an old saying about confession - I think it goes something like ‘be honest, be brief, be gone’ 🙂

Do your best - that’s all God wants. Don’t stress if you accidentally forget something.

Definately, go to confession! You can write your sins on a piece of paper to ease your mind, but I wouldn’t want anyone to find or see it.

Remember, Jesus is present for the sacrament and he can read your heart, so don’t worry if you missed anything. If it pops up after the confession, then tell him next time. Mortal sins are hard to forget and those are the ones you need to get cleared up right away.

Hi I am new here,

I am 16 year old a girl and well I was wondering about confession. Now I rarely go to church. And I have have commited mortal sins mostly stealing when I was younger like in kindergarten I stole a toy Donald Duck from his kid, and the next day I cried about it all through class knowing I was going to go to Hell. I kept saying to myself “I am going to go to Hell!” Well I have stolen cookies from peoples’ houses and I took money from my brother one time, he was really angry. I even tried to hurt my mom, but thank God I didn’t. I need to know can I only be truly forgiven of my sins through confession? Or is prayer enough to give me forgiveness of my sins? I pray everyday in the morning and before I go to bed i pray the Holy Rosary, the Act of Contrition, a prayer for the rapture when it comes to be saved, and two prayers that I say directly to God asking his forgiveness and knowing that I have sinned against Him. Please if anyone can answer my questions I really would appreciate it so much. I just feel horrible for my sins, I forgot about them for years but then all of a sudden they popped right back in my mind tearing me up inside. I even cried one night asking God to forgive me and take me to Heaven when I die. So please if you read this I would like some answers to my questions. Is confession only on Saturdays or Sundays? I have heard it’s only on Saturdays. Well who all are reading this probably think I am a horrible person for commiting these horrible sins. But I don’t want you to think of me that way I have just made mistakes in my past and I want to forget about them and move on. PLEASE I NEED SOMEONE TO HELP ME. TO GIVE ME ANSWERS TO THE QUESTIONS I HAVE ASKED! THANK YOU AND GOD BLESS YOU ALL!
My son is 13 and we just had this discussion the other day.

Here is how it works according to Catholicism. It is kind of complicated so bear with me.

First of all you must understand that there are 2 parts to being clear of sin in order to go to heaven. #1 you must ask for forgiveness and if forgiveness is granted #2 you must suffer for your sins.

Example of this first part we find in Jesus. Jesus came and showed us that sins could be forgiven but suffering must also happen and so he offered himself to suffer for our sins on the cross. Through this act of suffering original sin was cleansed. Make sense?

Second we address confession itself. I’ve had this discussion with a few priests and did some reading on it. I’ve learned that in reality it is possible to be forgiven of a sin without confession BUT you never really know for sure because we can’t hear God tell us that we are forgiven. Scary huh? This is why Jesus gave the apostles the ability to forgive sin on behalf of God. Jesus did this so that we could talk to these apostles (Priests) and KNOW that we are forgiven. But the process doesn’t end there, we also need to suffer for those sins.

Things get a bit more complicated at this point because we don’t really know how much suffering we are required to endure for each sin. But I can tell you that God himself does let each of us know to a certain extent how much suffering we need.

If you find yourself suffering because your parents are fighting, or you are fighting with a friend, or a boyfriend or girlfriend is pressuring you to do something you don’t want to do. Maybe you become physcally ill. These are small gifts offered to us by God to atone for our sins. Tell God that you recognize the suffering and accept that suffering to atone for the sins that you committed. Ask him to accept your offering. He will and does.

If the suffering is to much for you to handle talk to God about it. Ask him to take it away. Ask him to give you the knowledge and courage to face and understand what you are going through.

You know, I believe in my heart that you are on the right path. You’ll be ok. From what I am reading it sounds like it would ease your worry to simply go to confession so that you know for sure. So do it. It only takes 15 min.

In confession you don’t have to give details of anything. You can simply say you masturbated. If the priest asks you how much, give him an estimate. Don’t worry about being perfect. God can read your heart and will know that you tried and will forgive you because of that.

As for lying simply say you lied more than once and that you regret it.

That’s all. I’ve even forgotten some sins when in confession and when I told the priest later he said not to worry as it was forgiven because my intention was to tell him.

Remember that God knows what your intention is. He knows if you are really sorry or not and what youa re trying to do. He is not goign to shut you out of heaven on a technicality of how or what you said.

Besides God, Jesus, Mary and the angels communicate primarily through thought and intention (which is the voice of your soul.) They don’t even always use words, or English for that matter. 🙂

Take heart. You will be ok.

Just say, “I looked at porn.” The priest has heard that more times than you could imagine and he will not tell you to leave the confessional.

To really feel clean after Confession you must be willing to reveal all of the embarrassing sins and thoughts. Once you’ve done this, you will be walking side-by-side with Jesus Himself. He loves the PURE OF HEART !

As far as “Sweet Jesus” or “Sour Jesus”, the Bible tells us not to use the name of God in vain. I think this would include both expressions.

Hi,

Well looking at porn is bad, but you only need to confess it if you had lust when you were looking at the images. But if you didn’t have lust at the time you were looking at them then no it isn’t a sin. But you can confess it if you want too.

You’re NOT serious…right?

I think reader16 is referring to pop-ups and things of that nature, like if you were on a good non-sinful site, and a pop up came with pornographic pictures or something, if you did not have lust, and got rid of that window as soon as possible, thats not looking up pornography. On the other hand, looking up pornography is a grave sin even if your not lusting, the very act of going to a porn site indicates the intention to sin, and needs to be confessed.

If pop-ups occur they usually are triggered on sites that are receptive to them.

Pop-ups do not occur on forums not conducive to them. Pop-ups are closely monitored for FCC violations.

Having said that, it would be good advice to avoid sites that trigger pop-ups of that sort. It is an “Occasion of sin” maybe not with full deliberation, but should be avoided nonetheless.

As for “confessing” the pop-ups, the poster must confess it anyway. This way there leaves no doubt and the confessant leaves the confessional like a “newborn babe.”

When you want to "walk with Jesus,: you want to be as pure as you can.

Thats not entirely accurate, though pornographic pop-ups most likely come up on sites of ill-reptue, other sites, even sports sites, have pop ups with scantily clad women, swimsuit models etc. which could be lusted at. I know for a fact that on the sportsmagazine sites, ads like that are sponsored. But besides that I agree with you, except, if there were bad pop ups and you quickly x’ed them out, that is not a sin for seeing them.

OK, we can agree on your last point. Since the OP asked about confession we must steer him/her to the direct pathway to Christ. Being self-accusatory, in and of itself, is a gift in that it seeks perfection.

Why quibble? That has always been my attitude. If it is 50-50, I’ll confess it.

Trying to get the words here, I’m not feeling too well at the moment, I’ve got one of my sick headaches, so please bear with me.

First - you confess your sins
Second - you make reparation for the effects of those sins.

Sin harms us and indeed, sometimes other people. So even though you have been forgiven, you still need to make up for what you have done. For example - you do something bad to your best friend. Then you realise that you have hurt them so you say you’re sorry (confession). The hurt still remains so you try to do something to make it up to them, to repair your relationship.(penance)

Sin also harms our relationship with God so we need to repair that relationship as well.

Sometimes this takes the form of suffering, sometimes we need to tend to our spiritual life (sometimes both) - spend more time in prayer, scripture reading or other spiritual reading, devotions, Adoration, doing things that lift us up and heal the rift with God. So, if your problem was looking at porn, for instance, reading scripture has the double effect of 1 - saying no to repeating the sin and 2 - inspiring us to do better in the future and to mold our lives more closely to what God intends for us, through knowing his Word.

Suffering is part of life and being able to offer it to God in reparation for your sin, or for the sins of others in Purgatory, is a great gift. As a convert, this has been one of the most difficult concepts for me to understand (and could quite possibly be the subject for an entirely new thread.) For the world - suffering is bad, for the Church - suffering can be turned to good. The following really helped me to wrap my mind around it and to embrace my sufferings as little gems to be offered for the souls in Purgatory and for my own purification.

This excerpt is from a Sacred Heart meditation on the Stations of the Cross - The Fifth Station - .Simon the Cyrene helps Jesus to carry His Cross.

“Lord Jesus! In the great moments of your work of redemption, you chose to become dependent on human partners, and to accept the help of human hands. The hands of your mother supported you when she offered you in the temple. The bread you had multiplied out of pity for the multitude you gave into the hands of the apostles to distribute. And now, in this blessed moment, you allowed human hands to share the burden of your cross. A precious invitation you give to me - to be a Simon of Cyrene to all who are crushed, to all who are losing hope. The power of your hands all the time supported Simon; sustain me also, so that I may have the strength to bear my cross and to ease the burden of others.”

In this way, you can join your sufferings with the sufferings of Jesus in His Passion and cooperate with His great work of Redemption, both for yourself and for others.

I went to confession and i did miss one sin that i was lazy but i dont think its mortal.
Now what i wanted to know is this morning my sister annoyed the hell out of me and i wasnt angry but i said if i didnt worry about sinning and that if i hadnt have gone to confession i would hit her and i walked off i wasnt really angry i just said it to try to shut her up.
I wanted to know when is the sin of anger mortal i dont see how getting angry when you cant do a i=video game is mortal?
What if someone annoys you and you get angry but dont react and just like walk of because you know its teh right thing to do and will prevent hitting etc?
Or is it anger if you start going out of control like when you get into a fight the adrenaline and its got you so badly that you wouldnt think about anything instead your just thinking of how to hurt that person through violence?
I dont see how getting angry but not responding and walking of without any thought of killing or hurtinng is mortal?

Isnt it just mortal when you start thinking of hurting the person?
