High Heeled shoes for young girls?

At what age do you feel it is appropriate for a young Catholic lady to wear slip-on kitten heeled shoes? My daughter is 14 and she thinks it is O.K for her to wear to a local youth group social. I feel that this type of shoe has traditionally been associated with ‘ladies of the evening’. But in todays society it is a common type of footwear. What do you practising, orthodox Catholic folks think? Give me your :twocents: worth 👍

The shoes that are pictured in this thread are absolutely adorable. I would have no problem with my daughter wearing them (and I’m a BIG PRUDE;) ). I agree with the other posters who advised having your daughter practicing in them before the youth group social. Sometimes, a little “give and take” is needed with regard to the most popular fashions. Saying “yes” to a few items that are not too outlandish can help your daughter be more understanding when you say “no” (to low cut/tight tops, low riding jeans with a thong hanging out, etc.).👍

That is sensible, particularly for young people who will all too soon be making their own fashion decisions, with or without your approval. Don’t object to things because they’re fashionable, just those fashions that are in and of themselves objectionable.

I think those would be appropriate for a 14 year old…
 
I wore heels like that when I was 13 (I’m 25 today). Also platform shoes were making a come-back at that time so it was hard to get shoes without a bit of “height”. I think they are appropriate. Some heels are sexy, some are classy. It is also good for your 14 year old to start thinking of herself as a young lady and carrying herself that way. It will make her concious of her behavior and more likely to take modesty seriously.

When I was 16, I wear high heeled shoes. I remember that I bought them online. Just cost $18.03 :D.
 
In 2014, there is no such thing as shoes worn by “ladies of the evening.”

There are all kinds of prostitutes who wear all types of clothing. It makes no sense to say that there are shoes that indicate a prostitute.

Maybe decades ago. But not now . Everyone wears whatever they please.

Heels on shoes have been in fashion, in one style or another, for hundreds of years. It is only the stiletto heel that have, up until recently, had any association with “ladies of the evening”. But even those have been restyled and refashioned into classier footwear for business woman and church going ladies.

I do not wear heels often because I am very tall already, and would tower over even most men, but I can see no objection to a young woman of 14 wearing dainty little heeled shoes. My own daughter wore such with her First Communion gown last spring, and she was only 8 at the time. Remembering my own childhood, I recall that most of my patent leather Sunday shoes had a heel on them, so when I was old enough to select my own shoes for dressy occasions, I often chose a heeled pump, and I was only 12 or so.

So, yes, heeled shoes for big girls or young women (and 14 is not, to my mind, a young “girl” but rather a young “woman”) is acceptable, as long as the little lady practices walking in them at home to build up confidence and poise.

First of all, I don’t have a problem on principle with wearing heeled shoes, as long as the other clothing is modest. However, in practice I have a serious issue with girls and women wearing very high heels and/or stilettos - not from a moral perspective, necessarily, but from a health perspective. Kitten heels are probably not going to create problems since they’re small. But larger heels and stilettos can create problems with the feet, legs, and back. They force the feet to bear weight in unnatural areas and can create foot problems later on. Since your daughter’s still growing, there’s also the possibility that very high heels can affect her bone and muscle growth. Still, if all she wants to wear is kitten heels, I don’t see a problem.

Find me a prostitute who wears Birkenstocks or Crocs, and I’ll believe you. 😃

I flipped by some unfortunate fashion show that had a little piece they titled, “Celebrity or Streetwalker?” The person was shown from the neck down, and the audience guessed, based on the woman’s attire. The point was not that “it makes no sense to say that there are shoes that indicate a prostitute,” but that for some reason celebrities are modelling their clothing choices according to the long-standing standards of those who are “in the business.”

Yes, there is such a thing as clothing that may as well be a price tag on your body. Maybe you’re not for sale, but you don’t look to be discouraging inquiries.

I’d sooner let my daughter wear heels than Birkinstocks or Crocs! 😉

OP, I think moderate heels are fine for teens.
