I would have no qualms about highlighting useful apologetics passages in, say, The Book of Mormon, the JW New World Translation, or the Bible, but for apologetics with Muslims, is it considered (by Muslims) a serious faux pas or even blasphemous to underline or use a highlighter on ones personal copy of the Koran?

No guessing, please. Does anyone one have first hand information or experience with this? Thanks.

If you do it in a non-Arabic text, i.e. a translation, you can do whatever you like, as according to Islamic law, it’s not the Quran.

A number of less educated muslims in their own faith, however, might take issue with it.

Doing it with the Arabic text might be seen as tampering with it, a definite no-no.

Thanks for the reply, Isa.

I’m surprised I’m not getting more replies on this. I think I’ll repost it in the Non-Catholic Religions forum. Many more Muslims seem to hang out there.

I’m re-posting this thread from the Apologetics forum since I’ve gotten little response there:

I am assuming that you have merely a translation of the Qur’an.

If this is the case, then there is no harm at all in you highlighting any passage or verse within it.

The Qur’an is the Qur’an only when it is in it’s original Arabic form.
