Please do not compare Nuns habit to the muslim female dress code. Completely different!
:aok:, and one is doing it willingly while the other one is doing it because of an earthy law.
For instance the women at the top of the forum has her head covered. And she was Jewish.
 That Woman is illustration of Virgin Mary.

Thank you Sam for a very wonderful illustration. It is very clear now. 🙂

May God bless you.

My children didn’t know turbaned men didn’t have anything to do with 911. Who are you fooling, anyway?. The feeling is common among many in all Muslim nations. Spare me, only people with their head in the sand don’t know better than to fall for that one.

We know very well the Muslim aim is to conquer the world. We know very well the technique of infiltrating and using our laws against us. We’re not all morons, you know. Just those in power, for the moment.

It is no secret how your brothers in Egypt treat the Coptic Christians, relegating them to third class status, forcing them to make an impovershed living around the garbage dumps, and with pig farming. Then, using the slightest excuse to wipe out their way of making a living. It is that way in all Muslim countries. Literally, all of them. What kind of a person treats other human beings in that way?

The hijab is nothing more than a symbol of subjection to men, and so-called Allah, or God. The hijab would be beautiful, if, as it would be for a Christian woman, it was done freely out of love and devotion rather than fearful subjection. Fear has one origin, the devil.

I see nothing wrong with it. Amish and conservative Mennonite women wear their caps, as well. A woman, who keeps her hair covered or at least not loose and flowing, is much less likely to get unwanted advances from men. It is not a sign of subjugation, it a message, “Respect me.” 🤷 Why is it even a matter for debate?

Lots of women do it because they love God, seems like a pretty darn good reason to me.
If its good enough for the followers of my prophets (including Mary, mother of my beloved Jesus )it should be good enough for me.

ETA: Dont get all steamed about a web picture.

That’s just silly; **you **taught those kids how to react. 😦
Whose getting bent out of shape?

I can tell you that shortly after 911, my children came across some turbaned people. If you had seen them shaking with mortal fear, you would understand why the negative reaction. My heart broke for my children. It was all I could do to console them. You are very insensitive.

The hijab is very feminine and beautiful, but, as usual, the pride, and the lack of love in people’s hearts on the part of both those wearing them, and, in some cases, of those observing them, are the cause of any consternation.

Spare me. A convert? As far as I’m concerned, if you left Christianity, that is, Love Divine HImself, you made a poor bargain.

Men convert to Islam because it empowers men, and the culture presiding today wimpifies men. Big deal.

Thank you,

Who am I fooling? What are you talking about? All I did was point out ignorance. Your children only know what they have been taught. I just wanted to defend the innocent. The men with turbans you see are Siekh, most are from the Punjab area of India. They are not Muslim or even Arab or Persian. And MY brothers in Egypt? Who do you think I am? I am NOT Muslim!

Please re-read what I wrote. It does not bother me for you to **choose **your cultural form of modesty. It bothers me that some women are **forced **to it.

Muslim Woman quoted 1 Cor 11, but stopped short of this (bolding mine):
(Nevertheless, in the Lord woman is not independent of man nor man of woman; 12 for as woman was made from man, so man is now born of woman. And all things are from God.) 13 Judge for yourselves; is it proper for a woman to pray to God with her head uncovered? 1 Cor 11:11-13 (RSV)

Why can a nun cover her head , but people get bent out of shape when a muslim or non-nun does hijab?
(yes christian women do hijab too) 🙂
I posted this in another thread. I’m not sure if our OP will return to the conversation, so here is my final reply.

Nuns are women dedicated to God and “married” to God/Church/Christ.

They have** no worldly possessions, no husbands, no house on the beach or county, the majority of them live in convents or monasteries, they have no children, and devote their life to humanity and good deeds, fasting, praying and helping the needy. **

Their garments are to separate them from the rest of the society, showing people that they are "Nuns", women doing God’s Work.

Their “habit” is theirs. I know Nuns who dress to the fullest, and I know Sisters who dress otherwise.

I was just reading about a muslim member posting a question/post about hijab and twisting the post/reply to and Nuns in “short skirts” or something of that sort.

Muslims have been arguing about Christian Nuns and their wardrobe. They try to justify it to muslim women who cover up due to islam and their codes of dressing.

Not the same.

If muslim women who cover up in burka, hijab or niquab <–(spelling) compare themselves to Christian nuns, well then, they better stop getting married to men and pumping out babies because that is not what Christian nuns do.

I think Shakespeare said it best: “To hijab or not to hijab that is the question”. 😃

when any Christian criticise veil of Muslim Women , then I try to remind them that it’s not a sign of oppression . Their respected Mother Mary (pbuh) , Nuns never wore/wear mini skirts .

.

We don’t wear veil because Nuns do so ; we do it because it’s the command of God Almigthy . If Nuns decided not to cover themselves properly , InshaAllah ( God Willing) , we will continue obeying God Almighty till the last day.

And not getting married & having kids , huh …Jesus (pbuh) taught you so ? How we will have human being then in this earth ? We believe , God created us to worhip Him.

French Muslim Women: Daring to Take it to Court? *

…Can 2,500 Signatures Help?

In Toulouse, Southwest of France, a young researcher has been laid off by the Paul Sabatier University, again because of her “hijab.” The University stated that because she was on a government contract, her wearing the Islamic veil is not acceptable. Others would argue again that she is not a student in a public school and that the law does not apply to higher education institutions.

Sabrina has managed to gather 2,500 signatures of support and her case is being considered.

This sounds reasonable, but isn’t your concern political rather than religious? That is to say, that some governments choose to force religious standards? Don’t some Christians advocate for the same?

Standards of modesty have varied from place to place and time to time.

I saw one Muslim woman who was covered from hair to toes, except for her face.

But she wore a shiny bangly costume with lots of tiny mirrors, to say nothing about many necklaces and pendants.

One of the purposes of modesty is to not draw attention to oneself. But she had every eye in the store on her.

Her body might have been covered (except for her face). But was this really modest?
I know what you mean…I saw the same thing at a rest stop on the NY State Thruway, & I had the same reaction…There were three ladies together, dressed this way, and everybody–male & female–was looking at them…You couldn’t help yourself. *(Especially the one with some kind of bangles or bells that jingled every move she made.)
The hijab is very attractive. So is the al-amirah. The shayla is :thumbsup:gorgeous.
The khimar is also perfectly reasonable.
The chador? Well, I guess…:shrug:If you choose to wear it…OK.
The niqab is, IMHO, over the top.
And the burka looks like a fast trip to the emergency room after you trip & fall, from not being able to see where you are going. Or if (as I have read, from Muslim women), because you can’t orient yourself, & you develop motion sickness and vomit or even pass out.

I live in a community where we have a extensive presence of Conservative Mennonites and more than a few Amish families. I am very accustomed to seeing ladies in very modest dress. I am all for it; more power to them.
If they were stoning or flogging or imprisioning women who didn’t dressed “up to code”, I’d raise holy hell over it.

From my point of view, the Hijab is the culture of the Arab. Why impose such culture to others as if it’s a universal truth? In Indonesia I’ve seen the decline of our own beautiful rich varied ethnic/cultural fashions, they all might perhaps end up in museum due to this. With this being imposed by the Muslim, it seems that they really want to have a uniform submission.
They really can’t go along with rich cultural backgrounds of diversity. I can’t see the beauty of Japan kimono with this, or any other culture.

Oh No…!

This is a very good point!👍👍
And it relates, I think, to what I am saying about Mennonites & the Amish…Their dress is very much like what was worn, say, a hundred years ago (Amish) or 60 or 70 years ago (for Conservative Mennonites). But it is American/European. (Laura Ingalls Wilder’s family dressed not unl;ike today’s Amish).
Yes, it is distinctive. But it is a dress that is very simple & very modest. But it would not meet the requirements for Muslim women’s dress; not because it is in any sense immodest, but because it is not Arab in origin.🤷
And it does not draw undue attention to the wearer. (Except, when a whole vanload of Amish arrive at the public library en masse…That can be attention getting, but in the:) nicest way. Like, you know: "Wow, how did they get here? Oh, a :)nice man drove them in a van).
