You may have noticed the obituary for Hildegarde, a cabaret singer of the 30s and 40s, so popular she was known by one name only, and was on the cover of Time magazine. She died in Manhattan last week, at the age of 99. What did not appear in the obits was any mention of her Catholic faith. Our pastor worked her skillfully and appropriately into the sermon Sunday. He visited her shortly before her death and when he entered her room he found her saying the rosary while gazing at the image of the Sacred Heart. He spoke about it in a way I could never effectively pass along, but I’m happy to share that little bit here, and ask you all to say a prayer for Hildegarde.
