JournoPal wonders about Klein and Hillary

You remember my Journo friend? I have mentioned this person from time to time and once I even posted a transcript of an email exchange between the two of us on the issue of Newsweek and Koran - the source of so much Gitmo ratching-up.

This person just sent me an email wherein he expressed some doubts about the Flag-burning amendment and hoped that the whole issue was not simply a cynical political ploy. Then he wrote: Speaking of cynical political manipulation, I’m wondering if somewhere, deep in a vault, there is a hefty cancelled check made out to a Mr. Edward Klein, and signed by Hillary Clinton.

Coulda knocked me over with a feather. I wrote back:

Me: So, that thought’s crossed your mind, too, has it? Seems many, many of us are having that thought. This man is no “right-wing nut”…and she does very, very well when she looks like a victim. I think that is why so many on the right are going out of their way to denounce the book.

Journo: She would have *wanted *it to be lame, to be riddled with dubious and unreliable rumors, and to come off like a “cut and paste” job. To be trash so everyone could dismiss it.

Me: Consider this also…now all that salacious crapola is “out there” and it is over. If anyone asks her about it they’ll be called a hater, and she’ll just say it was already addressed elsewhere.

Journo: Exactly. Be afraid. Be very afraid. Seriously: if she wants to get in the game, she should run for NY governor. Senators are SO 1960. We’ve stopped electing them to the WH. Doesn’t she know that?

Me: Aw, come on, you know that’s just one more challenge to her - to be the first senator since Kennedy to be elected to the WH. The boomers who love her would love it, because all they want to think about is the 60’s. And Hillary believes she is the exception to every rule. And she won’t mind giving up a senate seat because she believes it is all but a done deal that Spitzer will be our next Gov (God help us) and he’ll appoint another Dem in her seat. Actually, I have heard tell that it’s already promised to Al Sharpton. Seriously.

Subject changed after that, but I thought it was interesting to have a big-time-professional journo suggest that the whole (gasp) scandalous-book-about-poor-Hillary was a big fat piece if cynical manipulation and a farce.

UPDATE: Count Peggy Noonan among those who have seem to have some suspicions about Klein’s work here, and who feel the the book is meant to help, not hurt Hillary:

*It comes from an establishment journalist who’s had his professional ticket punched at the New York Times magazine and Newsweek. He has no conservative bona fides; he says he is and appears to be essentially apolitical. This is an anti-Hillary book by the MSM. It has been heavily promoted not by a conservative publication but by Vanity Fair magazine, which published a big fat juicy chapter in its famous “Deep Throat” issue. Graydon Carter, Vanity Fair’s editor, is the author of an anti-Bush book, passionately opposed to Iraq, and no one’s idea of a wing-nut. *

Noonan gets to the heart of the matter, too…she points out that while the salacious drivel is there, Klein somehow never even thought to find out about troublesome senior thesis (like any MSM reporter will EVER ask her about it!)

*But he ignores the Rosetta stone of Hillary studies, the senior college thesis she wrote on leftist organizer Saul Alinsky and how to change the American political culture, which her alma mater, Wellesley College, obligingly continues to suppress on her request. *

As I said just recently: the mainstream press adores this women and will do all it can to help her succeed. An ambitious person who “owns” the press all the way into the White House (and beyond) will have the Tyrant’s Key.
