Hindu Engagement

Hello CAF!

I recently reconnected with an old friend who told me his brother was engaged to a Hindu woman. His brother is living in the temple until the marriage. I have tried researching this practice as my friend does not understand and does not talk much with his brother. I am just curious if this is part of the engagement and, if so, what is the reasoning behind this?

I am just curious since I do not know much about Hinduism and since I have not spoken to said brother in 5 yearsI feel awkward contacting him about it. The brother is a lapsed Catholic and I do not know if the reason if for a period of conversion to Hinduism or if it is just to save money? Anyway, any direction is appreciated.
 
My sister married a Hindu man from India. They married in a Catholic Mass first and then had a Hindu ceremony afterwards. I don’t remember this happening when they married or later when his sisters all married American men either. My assumption is it has nothing to do with the wedding itself.
 
Thanks 7. I see how I assumed it was related to the marriage because of the move happening during the engagement period. 🙂
