Is this real extremism and radicalism? Who should you blame?
Why should we be surprised at this, Jesus and the apostles said that this sort of thing would happen because of our commitment to Christ.

Extremists do all sorts of things their own religion does not condone or teach.

Do I smell a thread titled: Hinduism is bad?

This is horrifying 😦
I pray to Jesus to save not only the nuns and priests, but the orphans as well

Priest and 2 Laypeople Slain in India

Italian Cardinal Urges Solidarity With Persecuted
MUMBAI, India, SEPT. 23, 2008 (Zenit.org).- As the wave of anti-Christian violence continues in India, two more laypeople were added Monday to the list of victims.

A Catholic priest, Father Samuel Francis, was also killed over the weekend, but authorities have not yet ruled out the possibility that his slaying was the result of a robbery, according to AsiaNews.

Attacks continue against churches and Christian centers in the states of Orissa, Chhattisghar, Pradesh, Karnataka and Kerala. The wave of anti-Christian violence at the hands of Hindu extremists has been heightened since the end of August.

The All India Christian Council reported that in Orissa alone, 37 Christians have already been killed, among them two Protestant pastors; more than 4,000 houses have been burned, and close to 50,000 faithful have fled to camps or sought refuge in the forests.

Cardinal Angelo Bagnasco, archbishop of Genoa and president of the Italian episcopal conference, spoke out against these events, denouncing the “anti-Christian persecution taking place in India, Iraq and other parts of the world.”

(John 16:1-4):
All this I have told you so that you will not go astray. They will put you out of the synagogue; in fact, a time is coming when anyone who kills you will think he is offering a service to God. They will do such things because they have not known the Father or me. I have told you this, so that when the time comes you will remember that I warned you. I did not tell you this at first because I was with you.

Praying for the repose of the holy nun’s soul. :gopray:

Also, we should not condemn hinduism as a whole, just the extremists who did this. I am sure there are many, many peaceful hindus in India.

It is my hope that these people will one day abandon their false religion and come to embrace the Redeemer as their one, true God.

Sam, you are correct to post that passage. It is a very important and good thing to remember while we grieve for the dead in attacks like this. It is understandable to be upset, angry, and all the rest over this, but Jesus’ words are the absolute truth in this matter and all matters, and He has told us that these things would happen.

As to aaranjo’s question of who is to blame…if there is someone else to blame other than the assailants, it is not a “someone”, but a “something”, and something is the idea that Christianity is foreign to certain parts of the world, as though Christianity did not arrive in India with St. Thomas in 52 A.D. This is the same attitude that tries to say that Christianity is foreign to Africa (Alexandria, Numidia, and Axum all show this as a lie), the Middle East (as though the Assyrians, Chaldeans, Lebanese of all stripes, Kurdish Christians and others converted to Christianity in the 20th century!), India, China (Arnobius mentions Chinese Christians in his third century writings), etc.

This is a terrible chauvanism masquerading as anti-chauvanism and anti-colonialism. In this case, it is probably rooted in something like Savarkar’s early 20th century concept of “Hindutva”, which was terrible then and is terrible now (hopefully our crypto-Muslim poster “aaranjo” will agree with this, since Savarkar was stridently anti-Muslim). There is no excuse for such horrible acts. May God have mercy on the souls of the perpetrators should they seek it, as He welcomes His blessed martyrs who died for their faith.

There are wonderful people amongst Hindus as amongst Muslims and Christians. In fact in Mangalore inspite of the Ramadan fast many muslims offered to sleep outside churches to prevent attacks. Having said that Hindus are more passive than most other communities, plus as the indian media conveniently ignores the plight of the Christians who are victims both of the terrorist groups amongst their co-religionists as well as state terror from the police, they find it very easy to live in denial. Most if asked will deny the problem is as bad as it is or even blame it on conversions or caste conflict, this even though the Christian population of India is virtually static for the past 60 years.
The propaganda war is successful as far as the extremist groups are concerned. Now as far as powerful countries that claim to be votaries of human rights the less said the better. USA and UK give tax free status to these terror organisations, this tax free money is channelled for many purpose one of them now obviously being ethnic cleansing.
The RSS, which is founder organisation of all these hate groups, is already treated as a terrorist agency by one
organisation Total Intelligence Solutions LLC, www.terrorism.com
(terrorism.com/modules.php?op=modload&name=Countries&file=index&view=113 )

Their websites are vhp.org.uk/vhpcms/

and USA website - vhp-america.org/
bajrangdal.org/
Who is the rapist and murderer, the one who rapes, but what of the person who permits the rape and murder to continue and allows tax free funding.
I really do not blame hinduism as a religion which is a very tolerant religion most of the time, but due to successful propaganda and self denial many hindus really only treat the violence as an aberration or worse an embarassment when it is totally systemic, organised and prolonged without measure.
Let us pray that God enlightens us to love and accept all people and see the good in them but let our love not diminish our quest for justice.
God bless
Derrick

Rape, Murder, Arson in Orissa

Attacks on Christians continued in the Kandhamal district. While a young woman was reportedly gang-raped by unidentified rioters on Sunday night (Sept. 21), a man went missing and was allegedly killed on Friday (Sept. 19).
Father Ajay Singh of the Catholic Archdiocese of Bhubaneswar, Orissa’s capital, told Compass that a local Oriya-language newspaper, Dharitri, reported that a 20-year-old woman was raped by about 15 men in an area under Tikabali police jurisdiction in Kandhamal late on Sept. 21. The victim, who was living in a relief camp and believed to be Christian, had gone back to her house to see her grandmother. A group of men stormed the house and took her to a nearby jungle and raped her, Singh said, adding that the police had confirmed the incident.

Dear Friends,Greetings. One of the reasons that was projected for the attacks on the churcheswas forced conversion through financial inducements. The ChiefMinister commended publically that he would investigate the source offoreign funds for the conversion activities. In this context it willbe good to be aware of how much money some of the HIndu organisationsare getting from the foreign sources for religious activities. As anexample , the objective and funding of one organisation based in theUS called, IDRF, is presented here, which funded to the tune of 2ocrores , organisations that are based on the Hindutwa ideology. Youcan download the whole report named Foreign Exchange of Hate - IDRFand the American Funding of Hindutva from the websitehttp://www.sabrang.com/hnfund/sacw/index.htmlfind the main findings copied below. I recommeded you read and pass toothers concerned.Fr . George KannanthanamCorrespondentJustice and PeaceBangalore Claretians-------------------------------1.4 Summary of FindingsThe purpose of this report is to document the links between the IndiaDevelopment and Relief Fund (IDRF), a Maryland, US based charity, andcertain violent and sectarian Hindu supremacist organizations inIndia. The IDRF operates in the US under the rules governingtax-exempt charitable organizations. These rules prohibit suchorganizations from participating in political activity of the kindthat involves funnelling money overseas to violent sectarian groups.Further, the report provides evidence to argue that IDRF’s claim ofbeing a non sectarian organization that funds development and reliefoperations in India is disingenuous at best, and that this claim isstrategically designed to insert IDRF into the cultural milieu andgoodwill of the Indian diaspora as the ‘charity of choice’The main points of this study are: * The Hindutva movement is a violent sectarian movement seeking tocreate a Hindu Rashtra (an ethnically ‘pure’ Hindu Nation) in India,in many ways similar to the Nazi idea of a pure Aryan Germany. Itseeks to exclude or eliminate religious minorities such as Muslims andChristians and fix Dalits and Adivasis into an internal hierarchy ofcaste.* The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS, or the Sangh, literally, the National Volunteers Corps) is the core organization of theHindutva movement, and it operates through hundreds of frontorganizations in both India and the US.* From documents submitted to the US Federal government in 1989 aspart of its application for tax exempt status, it is clear that fromits very moment of inception, IDRF’s goal was clearly to support theSangh in India. That IDRF supports Sangh organizations in India isthus not a matter of accident but is instead the very purpose for itsexistence.* Since its inception, IDRF’s links with Sangh organizations inIndia have grown dramatically. Of the organizations in India that itlists as “sister organizations”, an overwhelming number are clearlypart of the Sangh’s family of organizations.* IDRF’s leadership in the US has well-established links with theHindutva movement both in India and the US. Officials of IDRF in Indiaare also openly part of the Sangh.* Hindutva organizations in the US do extensive publicity andfundraising for the IDRF. They openly acknowledge IDRF as a part ofthe Sangh.* Of the funds that the IDRF transfers to India, almost two-thirdsgo to organizations that can be identified as RSS organizations. Abouthalf of the remaining funds go to organizations that can be identifiedas sectarian Hindu organizations. In other words, less than 20 percentof the funds sent to India by IDRF go to organizations that are notopenly non-sectarian and/or affiliated with the Sangh.* More than 50 percent of the funds disbursed by the IDRF are sentto Sangh related organizations whose primary work is religious’conversion’ and ‘Hinduization’ in poor and remote tribal and ruralareas of India. Another sixth is given to Hindu religiousorganizations for purely religious use. Only about a fifth of thefunds go for disaster relief and welfare-most of it because the donorsspecifically designated it so. However, there is considerabledocumentation indicating that even the relief and welfareorganizations that IDRF funds, use the moneys in a sectarian way. Insummary, in excess of 80 percent of IDRF’s funding is allocated forwork that is clearly sectarian in nature.* Adequate documentation also exists to show that the IDRF fundsorganizations in at least three states in India that are directlyinvolved in large scale violence against Muslim and Christianminorities. This reports documents the case of an the IDRFbeneficiary, the Vanvasi Kalyan Ashram in Gujarat and its extensiveinvolvement in anti-Christian violence between 1998-2000 including thephysical destruction of Christian institutions, schools, churches, colleges, and cemeteries and forcible conversions to Hinduism.* Secondary documentation also exists to show that the sameHindutva organizations involved in the anti-Christian violence of1998-2000 were involved in the Gujarat carnage of 2002 where, by mostreliable accounts, more than 2000 people, mostly Muslims, weremassacred

I don’t know what to say. I am not a Hindu, but my understanding is that Hindu extremism isn’t Hinduism at all. Hindus are first of all not try to force their views on others. Certainly they are not allowed to be violent, that goes against the Hindu understanding of Ahimsa. All the Hindus I know and heard of are actually very nice people. It breaks my heart to hear that there are Hindus doing this.

playing devil’s advocate here, but why would people convert for money only to deal with gang rapes, being burnt alive, having their homes destroyed, having to flee to refugee camps etc…??? it doesn’t make much sense.
