Has anyone ever heard of the Hindu milk miracles? What do you think of them? Apparently this happens periodically, and is not limited to statues in their temples, but also statues in the home and other locations.

In essence, how do you view miracles in other churches and religions? Does the Catholic Church have a position on such events?

There’s no message with it. When Christ performed miracles the message was that He was the Son of God. When the sun danced at Fatima on October 13, 1917, as predicted beforehand by Mary to the children, there were accompanying messages.

That’s assuming it was a real event in the first place. It’s one thing for a statue to take up milk, possibly by capillary action, and another to make the sun dance, and predict it beforehand to the day.
 
Capillary action can’t explain all of it:
Naturally there are skeptics – 10% of Hindus, according to our very unscientific poll – all of whom moved swiftly to distance themselves from the phenomenon. “Capillary action,” coupled with “mass hysteria” is the correct explanation, concluded many scientists within a few hours. Aparna Chattopadhyay of New Delhi replied to these scoffers in a letter to the Hindustan Times: “I am a senior scientist of the Indian Agriculture Research Institute, New Delhi. I found my offerings of milk in a temple being mysteriously drunk by the deities. How can the scientists explain the copper snake absorbing the milk I offered with a spoon kept at a good distance away from it?”

Whether genuine or not, the miracles have led to a revival of faith among Hindus:
Reuters news service quoted Anila Premji, “I held the spoon out level, and it just disappeared. To me it was just a miracle. It gave me a sense of feeling that there is a God, a sense of Spirit on this Earth.”

I have seen that capillary action is given as an explanation. However, from what I have read, this “miracle” did not occur after the days that it appeared. So, if capillary action is a valid explanation, this would mean that the “miracle” would always occur, especially since Hindus offer milk to the statues consistently.
 
In order to understand the significance of Ganesh to Hindus, one must know this story about Ganesh:
Ganesha and His brother Lord Subramanya once had a dispute as to who was the elder of the two. The matter was referred to Lord Shiva [Father of both Ganesh and Subramanya] for final decision. Shiva decided that whoever would make a tour of the whole world and come back first to the starting point had the right to be the elder. Subramanya flew off at once on his vehicle, the peacock, to make a circuit of the world. But the wise Ganesha went, in loving worshipfulness, around His divine parents and asked for the prize of His victory.

Lord Shiva said, “Beloved and wise Ganesha! But how can I give you the prize; you did not go around the world?”

Ganesha replied, “No, but I have gone around my parents. My parents represent the entire manifested universe!”

Thus the dispute was settled in favour of Lord Ganesha, who was thereafter acknowledged as the elder of the two brothers. Mother Parvati also gave Him a fruit as a prize for this victory.

Ganesh, thus, represents Wisdom (Greek: “sophia”).

The word “Ganesh” also has an interesting connection to the Hebrew names of God. “Ganesh” literally means “Gana” (“Hosts; Armies”) “Esha” (“Lord”), or “Lord of Hosts”, which, in Hebrew, is “YHWH Sabaoth”.

Tomorrow (23 August) is celebrated as the Birthday of Ganesh.
 
YES!!! I’ve heard and seen this!!! I saw this on TV…Inside Edition or something like that YEARS ago. I didn’t know what to make of it then, I don’t know what to make of it now.
