I am so tired of all of this! Most people do not think that yoga is wrong, just like tai chi, etc. They believe if they get a ‘positive’ thing out of it, then it must not be wrong. How naive! How ignorant! How, just plain stupid! Not everything that glitters is gold…but how to explain it to the others? They do not listen!

Please be reassured that I will send my e-mail in this regard. I have heard about this through the Fatima Crusader. But then again, most people think that Fr. Gruner is a liar.

Blessings,
Shoshana

Sickening isnt it?..guess we just need to keep fighting even when we dont see the results…
The victory is ours when the battle is the Lords!

I thought our Holy Father said that there is good in other religions, even if they don’t have a direct knowledge of Christ. I’m not sure if it’s appropriate to have him speak at the church, but on the other hand, I don’t see Hinduism as evil.

The Hindu people seem to be a particularly wonderful group, living very moral lives and having great family values. India is a country with a lot of poverty, but they manage to live in dignity and harmony for the most part, inspite of great deprivation. I have a lot of respect for much of their culture, which is firmly rooted in Hinduism.

I also think that yoga can be a postive practise if done for exercise and relaxation. Just my two cents, I’m sure many here will disagree… :twocents: 🙂

As one very dear to our hearts has said:“Pray pray pray…”

Mary concieved without sin…pray for those us!

Good Morning Church

I wish my parish was having Yoga classes.
In fact, yesterday, my cancer doctor wrote me a perscription for yoga, he doesn’t think my insurance company will honor it.
I have had several doctors and my Chiropractor recommending yoga.
Don’t you think if it is done within your parish, the Priest has approved it and will oversee it?
I hardly think it will be a problem.

No! I feel secure enough in my faith not to be troubled by it.

Say it ain’t so.
I’ve been to Montreal and saw St. Josephs and Notre Dame.

See Matthew 24:15-16.
I hope it isn’t time to flee to the mountains.

Is he coming to speak to the Catholics about Hinduism or is he coming to talk about yoga classes? Is he speaking on the kind of thing that happened recently at Fatima? Is he speaking in place of the homily when only the priest should be doing that or is he speaking after Communion?

What exactly is he promoting?

And does his book contain anything contrary to Catholic teaching? IF it does…he shouldnt be allowed to even mention it

Whats wrong with yoga?
Hi,
Just some corrections - no doubt there is good in other religions but there are important distinctions that need to be made. Hinduism is a polytheistic religion - they worship around 3330 million gods. The number might be more,Im not sure but the 333 is right (one interesting inference is 1/3 = .33 (approx) and 1/3 of angels rebelled and fell down - pls dont hang me on this and miss the point!)
St.Paul clearly states that worshipping idols is actually worshipping demons; cause there are spirits behind the idols they worship which are happy to grant them the temporal goods they claim; which is one of the reasons why so many “miracles” and “cures” happen even at tirupati.

About their moral values - many of the gods they worship have several wives; India by itself has a strong traditional culture which looks down on non family based practices (which is again fast declining) but I dont know if I can attribute it to hinduism!

So much for that. Apart from that, doing some yoga based exercises might be okay , but yoga by itself is totally based on hindu philosophy and is part of the new age (you can check the vatican doc “Jesus Christ bearer of the waters of life” where yoga is listed as one of the banned practices).

Asking ravi shankar to speak at a catholic church is very much inviting a yogic cult leader to teach his course which is a totally hindu course - I know since I myself am an Indian and I have friends who have done this course.

Im sure there are going to be people ready to argue with me, but if youre interested, and for your own good, I would like to send across to you material detailing on why yoga is wrong and where it goes wrong. If you would like to have it, let me know.

Blessings!

So, leaders from other religions are DIScouraged from speaking to Catholics? I thought that Jesus taught about compassion, and loving our brothers. Would Jesus bar entry to this man?

Please understand that Jesus is one of my very favorite teachers. This type of discussion is difficult to understand from what I have read in the Bible about him.

Any help in understanding this would be greatly appreciated!

with lovingkindness

Pagan Leader to Speak at Saint Joseph’s Oratory: Update!

Sri Sri Ravi Shankar called “the rage of New Age spiritualism”

Last week, we at the Fatima Center issued the call to save Saint Joseph’s Oratory from pagan influence. A recent report from Life Site gives more details of the August 14 event at which Sri Sri Ravi Shankar will speak at Saint Joseph’s Oratory in Montreal. Shankar, according to the Associated Press, “has become the rage of New Age spiritualism”.

Life Site reports that it had difficulty contacting Saint Joseph’s Oratory, due to the high volume of concerned Catholics telephoning about the event. The Oratory staff tells callers that Shankar’s visit is not a religious event, despite the fact that Shankar is to speak in the church itself. The cost of the two-hour session is $15.00 per person. It is scheduled to take place on the eve of a major Catholic Holy Day, the Feast of Our Lady’s Assumption.

But if the Sri Sri event is not a religious one, why is it being held at one of Canada’s most hallowed Catholic Shrines rather than at a local Fire Hall or a school gymnasium? Why are Catholics involved with organizing it in the first place?

The Life Site report explains that many Catholics are concerned that Shankar’s visit will be more than a courtesy call, a concern that deepens upon visiting Shankar’s website. Here one encounters what seems to be a cult of personality around the New Age leader. “The page” says the report, “hints of personality cult – every click brings new images of the guru’s ecstatic smile and young people lined up in lotus position.” The guru is referred to as ‘His Holiness’ by followers (a religious term) “and presumably will be addressed as such during the Saint Joseph’s Oratory event.”

The New Age leader advises his followers to choose the religion or spirituality that suits them, which defies Our Lord Jesus Christ Who mandated belief in Himself and His Teachings to be the one and only way of salvation.

Shankar’s message is one of humanistic New Age globalism, wherein he teaches breathing exercises based on Hinduism’s Transcendental Meditation.

Glasgow’s Herald reports that Shankar also tells his audience, “we are all one human family across all religion and culture”. This is nothing more than a Masonic religious indifferentism condemned by the Catholic Church, which exalts our common humanity over the one true Church founded by Jesus Christ.

to be continued…

Shankar also laughs off the idea that any religion can contain the whole truth. In a California lecture posted on one of Shankar’s webpages, he said that to insist “the Bible is truth” to the exclusion of any other religion, is one of the signs of being an unenlightened man.

Likewise, Life Site reports that Shankar tells his followers that the truly enlightened are more than mere believers: “An atheist bases himself on reason, and a believer on faith … Death shakes them both! When someone close dies, an atheist eyes are opened, and a believer’s faith cracks. Only a Yogi – a wise one – remains unshaken. For that person has transcended both reason and faith.” (Intimate Note to a Sincere Seeker Vol 6.)

A man who preaches such pagan ideas is not fit to speak at a Catholic institution of any kind. We urge concerned Catholics to contact the authorities listed below and those from our previous email to lodge their formal protest.

Thanks for the information. In fact, yoga is a really good ideea !

Thanks for soliciting action: I sent the following email to the addresses requested:

Dear Father:

I am sure this pagan leader is very kind, and a wonderful conversationalist, but please do not let him preach at our sacred Church.

In the Love of Christ our King,

Sean.

p.s.: If you want to grow the Church in Quebec (rather than let it continue to die), please start preaching the Gospel with the martyr’s spirit rather than with Masonic indifferentism!

I wish they had yoga class at my church. I would love to attend. Yoga has done nothing but help me.

Not necessarily. However, in a place of Catholic Christian worship, particularly where the Blessed Sacrament is kept, it is not appropriate for other faiths to be proclaimed, or other deities to be worshipped.

I also recall him being very hard on false teachers, and displaying some degree of zeal for the sanctity of the temple, “His Father’s house.”

If you have read about Jesus in the Bible, and conclude that he is merely a teacher, might I suggest you check it again?

Good teachers don’t lay claim to be one with God the Father, forgive sins, and rise from the dead, among other things.

Perhaps if Catholics thought of Jesus as only a teacher, you would not have occasion to ask your questions?

Blessings,

Gerry

Well, thank you for clearing this up. I had thought that Jesus was to be found within everyone, even leaders of the Hindu religion, and, that Catholics had more of an “open door” policy.
I also recall him being very hard on false teachers, and displaying some degree of zeal for the sanctity of the temple, “His Father’s house.”
Who has this ability to declare one a “false” teacher? I sure wish that I would have been aware of this while I was in high school!

Speaking purely for myself, Jesus is a wonderful teacher. I am slowly learning that some who follow his teachings do not find him to be as compassionate as I do after reading about him. I think that he would let anyone into his house. (prostitutes, tax collectors, I’m sure that the Dalai Lama would be most welcome-I do not follow Tibetan Buddhism by the way, but I greatly admire His Holiness)

Did Jesus die only for Christians’ sins, or, are Hindus (and Buddhists) included in this as well? If it is for everyone, why not let everyone into his house? What I recall about Jesus getting angry was when people were being disrespectful in the temple. How is an invited guest reason to protest?

Thank you Gerry for your comments!

with much lovingkindness,
Buddha-Full
