Ah the imfamous " **Comma Johanneum" -**a bogus translation that first appeared in 1592 and was written as a rebuttal to the those who pointed out Scripture didnt mention the trinity. It was used in some transaltions until the early 19th century. You wont find it in ANY of the early epistles or in any trasnslation of Scripture until the aforemention 1592 version. One would have to admit that had it been translated as such in the early epistles Arianism would have been dead on arrival.
Heres the King James version:
5Who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God?
6This is he that came by water and blood, even Jesus Christ; not by water only, but by water and blood. And it is the Spirit that beareth witness, because the Spirit is truth.
7For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one. 8And there are three that bear witness in earth, the Spirit, and the water, and the blood: and these three agree in one.
And the NIV:
6This is the one who came by water and blood—Jesus Christ. He did not come by water only, but by water and blood. And it is the Spirit who testifies, because the Spirit is the truth. 7For there are three that testify: 8the
