Yeah, I think that was Paul Revere and the Raiders.

never did care for that song.

I thought that was from Tim McGraw’s “Indian Outlaw” in the 90s. McGraw must have borrowed that lyric from an earlier song.

I prefer Europe’s song “Cherokee”. It helped me several times to correctly identify for history quizzes that the Cherokee Indians were the ones who marched on the Trail of Tears.
 
Christmas Eve / Sarajevo 12/24 by Savatage (and Trans-Siberian Orchestra) helps me to recall the Bosnian conflict of the 90s (as does the whole “Dead Winter Dead” album it comes from).

1348 by Royal Hunt helps me to remember when the Bubonic Plague swept through Europe.

I have many more songs that help me remember literary and mythological references, though. 😛
 
The Supertramp song the “Logical” song came out in 1979. The same year as the Iranian Revolution.
