I post this in the Liturgy and Sacraments forum because it pertains mainly to the Ordinary Form of the Roman Rite, moreso than the Extrarordinary Form. It truly has relevance in either form, but mostly the former.

You may have seen posts and articles from Catholic news sources on an article which appeared in l’Osservatore Romano by Bishop Athanasius Schneider recently on kneeling for Holy Communion and receiving on the tongue.

This is not about the excerpts seen in those posts and articles. Rather, it is the full length, original article, which was published in English and printed in the March 2008 issue of the Catholic Response Magazine. I was given permission by Fr. Peter Stravinskas to publish the full article on my blog where it now resides online.

Newman House Press was awarded the contract to publish the Bishop’s book, Dominus Est, in English. I’ve been trying to get the word out through various bloggers and forums to support Newman House in their efforts.

I read it. The sincerity of the author is not something I would want to denigrate.

My experience with receiving Jesus in the hand is too powerful to give up. I can’t speak for everyone, but it makes the act intimate and my heart tells me that is the way it is supposed to be. I am fully impressed that God has entrusted himself to me in the same way Jesus offers himself to St Anthony as a baby.

I do take exception to anyone putting words into Jesus’ mouth irregardless of the validity of their point as the quoted sermons of a couple of saints he uses in the essay.
