Specifically anti Catholic? I don’t think so. I am bothered by some of the details but I may be picky as most of the posters don’t seem to be as bothered. For me:

The whole scene with Abraham and Isaac but specifically Abraham also carrying wood on his back up the mountain. Also, according to Jewish traditions, Isaac was adult age and willing sacrifice, not Abraham hogtying a preteen who was clearly not willing. Both, not only not scriptural but completely erases the archetype of Jesus.

The whole discourse in the town over Mary’s pregnancy and Gabriel’s lack of “Hail, full of grace”

Later, Jesus’s baptism, no Trinity, no “This is my Son”. He is dunked just like everyone else. Within minutes, he’s in the desert and instead of “Scripture says…” Jesus’s responses more narrative, which I’d be Ok with except the 3rd where he says “I will only worship the Lord, my God…” This statement struck me as a disconnect between Jesus and His Father in that it would be the same line someone like Abraham or Moses would say, but not the Son of the Father. So these two scenes within minutes of each other, really hit me like a disconnect in Jesus’s identity. I could help but wonder if that might have been political given the diversities of modalism and others.
Thank you for your (name removed by moderator)ut - and if I watch, I will watch with those comments in mind.

Lots of inaccuracies. Several good characters …like Saul, Satan (made him to resemble Obama), King Nebuchadnezzar…but, most are poorly depicted.

HI!

I am new here. I have been a Catholic all my life but spent time exploring in other Christian Churches. The producers are both Christians. I have been watching it. I think so far it shows in the Old Testament and New (so far) that God is miraculous. I believe it will show Jesus as the Son of God. One reason I think it is not too bad is that all channels refused to air it-that was enough for me. There have been a few tweaks (the approach of the angel to Mary was one in particular) that were different than I had visualized-I think it was good to watch. Time will tell.

The baptism in the Jordan (maybe)…it was total immersion in the river…😃

A lot of things are skipped…the series is telling a long story that they are trying to condense… basically so far, as far as I can tell.
This is not inaccurate. Many of the Baptisms during the time of Jesus were of the immersion variety.

There are some details missed as some have stated. I think one of the things that bother me is that is shows Mary in pain during labor. Seems like every movie that portrays the birth of Christ shows her in pain, but in Catholic tradition it was not like this. “did not diminish his mother’s virginal integrity but sanctified it.” (Lumen Gentium [Vatican II], 57)
Good example is light passing through glass. Other than that the show is pretty good and the music is amazing, no surprise there since Hans Zimmer is involved.

Thank you!!! Lots of inaccuracies!!Worried about the representation to the public. Especially the glorified violence…hollywood…I’m enjoying the series over all.

👍 This!

I’d also add the fact that the series reduces the Bible to an action-adventure story.

Oh… and that they completely miss the “light”/“darkness” theme in the names “Samson”/“Delilah”, and then spin it as an American race relations (i.e., whites vs blacks) story. (There is a significant element of race in the story, but to impose the American experience upon it is to distort the story that’s in the Bible…!)

Showing David meeting Bathsheba during his dance into the city was kind of weird, too.

They also pretty significantly messed with the Lot story (not to mention the story of Abraham coming to Lot’s aid).

The characterization of Herod that looked a whole lot like Baron Vladimir Harkonnen (a character in the Dune universe) kind of weirded me out, as well…

Yeah… it’s good, if you’ve never read the Bible before – but if you have, you’ll have grey hair before it’s all done.

I was referring to the protestant denoms out there who reject any baptism that is not by total immersion…and who make fun of the CC which alllows other forms of baptism…😉
Well, there are many protestant churches that baptize without immersion. Also, the fact that some churches choose to limit their acceptance of baptism to those that are immersive, it does not mean that immersion baptism is inaccurate for the biblical time period. It was the norm. Also, it is still allowed under Catholic doctrine.

I have read the Bible and am watching without any gray hairs. It is a good mini-series that tells interesting stories that are based on the Bible. I am really not that worried about the details. As long as it does not contradict the faith, I have no problem with artistic license to tell a story.

I’m just watching it for the entertainment.
I think that can be the results, watching it for entertainment. The series seems to jump around too much and then focus on the more violent and sensational aspects such as the last King of Judah that fell being force to watch his sons killed and then his eyes plucked out. The producers didn’t need to replay that incident while skipping over a whole bunch more. It basically is too big of a task to take the Bible and then reduce it to a miniseries even with the best of intentions of the producers.

Yeah, to depict the totality of the Bible would require a year, so cutting was needed. Still, an edit that shows two men being blinded takes the violence over the top. IMNAAHO.

Still, I am ecstatic that the show is on. Hopefully, in years to come, there will be more TV movies and specials with this subject matter.

I have watched part of the series and like it very much. I saw an interview with the the husband and he said his wife is Catholic. I wouldn’t throw any stones her direction and think she’s doing a good job bringing a bit of The Bible to the masses. Kudos to the series and to the producers. iTunes has a Bible app (related to series) that allows for text and audio of the Bible. Thumbs up!

I finished the whole mini-series last night, my Question is why mary magdalene was always at the same side with the disciples?Mary Magdalene was the disciples too of JESUS?, I saw some inaccuracies when Mary Magdalene when to the Tomb first but there is no angel …(Mary Magdalene is the first (either alone or with a group of women) to arrive at Jesus’ tomb, where she encounters an angel (or a pair of angels) who instructs her to go tell the disciples that Jesus has risen)

I Come tithing good news Christians! We indeed, are the creators we once thought we were not.

Through the ages of the past 6000 years we have been able t o record the coming of nine (9) avatars (prophets). Jesus was the 9th avatar recorded. Any time we go through an age change the seers and sages go on high alert as they await the coming of the next prophet. And so the seers have been keeping watch for the so called, “2nd coming of Christ” but he has not come. And now, after recently ending the age of Pisces and our move into Aquarius (a return to the feminine energies) the sages have been watching for a goddess to show, but she has not come. Neither he, nor she, has come.

On the 5th of this month something happened to me, for when I awoke on the 6th I felt as if I had been reborn. I do not know or ask why, it just is. I know that during that night I had vivid dreams of far away travels, and to a time without limits. And as the morning of the 6th went forward many of those nights travels began to consciously come back to me. Without doubt the most important of all the gifts I had been offered on that night of the 5th was this one, single, gift. And now I gift it to you:

The 2nd coming of Christ is not a male figure like Jesus, and neither is it a divine feminine or goddess, they will not come. The 2nd coming of Christ, is YOU, is ME, is HIM, and is HER. YOU MUST REALIZE AND KNOW, THAT WE, ARE THE 10TH AND FINAL AVATAR FOR THIS PHASE OF OUR SPIRITUAL EVOLUTION. AND NOW, IT IS TIME,TO BECOME IT.

With all my love and more,

S. Bruno

P.S. Team History: you all finally put together the biblical movie that will knock out all the terribly sh|++y biblical movies of our past… I thank you.

Yet in the final segment of the series Saul/Paul is baptized by water poured over his head.

In all I found it a very good series.

john 6 is glazed over…just the feeding of the 5 thousand. Our Lady has pain at childbirth, she is dressed in a blue designer dress at the passion…(very strange) and Revelation is…well—it isn’t.

But only baptized in the name of Jesus Christ…not the trinitarian formula. That one was really a turn off for me.

Way to much “creative” license taken…could have been epic, not so much!!
I keep reading that they didn’t have enough time to portray everything accurately…
Jesus raising lazarus from the dead comes to mind. Jesus enters the tomb, whispers to lazarus to wake up and then kisses him on the head, and lazarus opens his eyes.
How much longer could it have taken to portray Jesus saying in a “loud voice” from outside of the tomb… Lazarus come out! The Last Supper account, breezed over. Jesus speaking from the cross…pretty important to change the wording on it.
Jesus is the way the TRUTH and the life.

The problem is, for every 15 misrepresentations of the bible, there is one that although off, very strongly presents the Jesus of our faith. For instance, the calling of Matthew was very well done as an adaptation of the bible for the screen. Also I liked the pharisee who seemed to be following Jesus around making known their view very precisely. Was that Paul?
