Query because I know if there is an expert he or she lurks here on CAF. My brother tells the the English language psalms we remember from our HS choir days are from the Grail psalter (this was before the disco/folk/rock crowd foisted of the 70s foisted their whimsical psalm tunes on us at Mass). He states further that the bible we remember from our Catholic school days is the Confraternity version, translated in stages in the early 20th c., superseded by the NAB. However, according to him the NAB psalms were rejected when the rest of the translation was approved by the Vatican.
My query is, what psalm translations are approved for Mass and LOTH. Why. What are the other translations in current use, and why are they rejected. For instance at one time Jerusalem Bible, NAB and RSV were all approved for liturgical use in US, but now only the NAB. Why, and particulary, why on the psalter?
