Hi, I’d like to know how the different Mass settings of Gregorian chants, Kyriale are grouped together, such as Missa I, Missa II. And who group them?

Thanks,
Mia2

As I remember my music history course, these were originally individual pieces that became associated with certain feasts, periods, or rank of feasts. Obviously, the simpler and lower the liturgical ranking, the simpler the music.

According to the Liber Usualis, there is nothing to prohibit taking the different movements (Kyrie, Gloria, etc) from different mass settings at the same celebration.

There are also a number of each labelled “Cantus ad libitum” or something similar.

You question might be rather complex.
Don’t know if you are aware of these faithful Catholic websites which treat Liturgy and Sacred music.

These sites, not only offer interesting articles along with online forums, have links of various organizations and information that will help you. You can likely find contributors on these sites, or the editors themselves who can answer your questions.
