''Hello,
I was wondering if some of our Muslim guests could explain how the different schools of thought in Islam, that were mentioned in another thread, came to be. Are these sects seperated? How similar are they from the original Islam? Why is there several schools of thought? Hopefully this will get us started’’
Peace,
School of thoughts in Islam means opinions of different scholars of islamic law on different matters through their interpretations to the Sources of the Law , which are the Quran and Hadeeth. They arent sects and if they never existed wouldnt add or take anything out of Islam . They arent sects . The are simply opinions. and as far as i know , in the orthodox Islam , its wrong to folllow blindly any one of them. Just follow what you feel is accurate interpretation of the religious text .
There are 4 scholars whom we have been able to obtain their work on teh Islamic law in great amounts. There are more than the 4 of course but their work hasnt fully been compiled.
There ar edifferent schools of thought because there are different scholars . There can be gazillion schools of thought or none at all. Doesnt matter .
Howver there are shia sect , they originated as a political movement more than religious. later they developed a religious theme. Most of them are Muslims still as regarded by sunnis. Some of them just went totally out of islam like Druz and fatimedes .
Hope that helps ,
Peace
