Hello all,

I’m trying to do some research for my Rosary group on the origins of the mystery meditations. I know that the Luminous mysteries were added by John Paul II. My questions are:

Who decided on the original 3 sets of meditations (Joyful, Sorrowful, Glorious including specific scriptural meditations for each decade)?

When did they begin to be incorporated into the Rosary prayers?

What other popes besides JPII have endorsed the Rosary?

Links and references would be awesome! Thanks in advance.

The Holy Cross Family Ministries might be a good start for your information. Pope John XXIII was instrumental as well as JPII Fr.Peyton the rosary priest is the founder of this organization.

You can also purchase a book on their website with a very thorough explanation.

More information on the history is also available on this website. theholyrosary.org/

Thank you! I checked out the first website so far, and it was really helpful.
