History of the Angelus Prayer

I went searching on the Catholic Culture website and came upon the word “Angelus.” While I knew that an Angelus prayer existed, I didn’t really know what it was for. So I read here
and found out that it was said three times a day. I also read here to find out that a bell was rung at the appropriate times. I’ve seen it on EWTN said after the Daily Mass I think, but I have a couple questions:

Do they do this prayer elsewhere anymore?

If they do, do they do it three times a day?

Is there a reason why it is said?

Do people just enter the church at the appointed time, pray the prayer and just leave?

Why did the Second Vatican Council remove the prayer? (Since my church doesn’t say it, I’m assuming it did)

I’m finding out all this stuff about the church that I just never knew. It’s all very interesting to me.

My parish rings Angelus bells at noon and 6pm, but not 6am (I do not know if there is a legal ordinance preventing or if it is just a kindness to the neighborhood). When I hear them, I stop what I am doing and pray the Angelus (or the Regina Coeli during Eastertide).

That’s really cool! I wish we had a bell in our neighborhood…well, actually we do, but I don’t really know what it means. It doesn’t ring e very day.

Vatican II didn’t say anything about the Angelus specifically, but far from banning it, in Lumen Gentium 66 and 67 it does say such traditional Marian devotions approved by the Church should continue to be fostered. In fact, the Pope prays the Angelus at St. Peter’s (and usually gives a sermon too):

Some parishes near me pray it (and ring the bells).
