When was the New Testament canon formally recognized? Was it the Council(s) of Carthage (Hippo) or was it not until Trent?
 
The New Testament canon was formally recognized by the Council of Rome in 382 under Pope Damasas. For more information see the *Catholic Encyclopedia * article New Testament Canon which states, “The Damasan catalogue presents the complete and perfect Canon which has been that of the Church Universal ever since.
