My younger brother is taking a course online about the Bible. I have a feeling that I’m going to have some defending to do.

Does anyone know of a good website that I could read about the history of the Bible? I need a good solid Catholic website that I can trust.

You can purchase books. The site has a lot of Catholic Material. St. Ignatius Press also have some good books on the history of the Bible

Is this a history course on how the bible came about, or a course about the salvation history written within the bible?

if is the history how the bible came about I would recommend
Where We Got the Bible: Our Debt to the Catholic Church by The Right Rev. HENRY G. GRAHAM

If it is about the salvation history I could recommend the audio program by Scott Hahn and Jeff Cavins “Our Fathers Plan”

This is a history about the bible itself, not biblical history.

I have read two excellent books in my requirements-for-applying to the Deacon program classes, they really go into a lot of background on the culture, customs, what the authors intended to say, origin of the books, etc. The OT one is Reading the Old Testament by Lawrence Boadt, and Reading the New Testament by Pheme Perkins.

In addition to Where We Got The Bible, don’t forget to search for specific items (like the canon of OT/NT) at the Catholic Encyclopedia online.
