Tyndale. (pronounced TIN-dle) Google him. You’ll find lots of juicy defamation of the Catholic Church in connection with him. He translated the Bible into English. Did a pretty good job, too. But laced it with Protestant bias that got him in trouble.
 
There had been other translations of the bible into English…AUTHORISED by the Church…and UNAUTHORISED…Tyndale’s was the first to take advantage of that wonderful new invention the printing press…he was tried for heresy and TREASON (people…especially protestants…always forget the treason part).

By today’s standards he wouldn’t have been convicted…by the standard of his age…he was found guilty on both charges.

He was found guilty of those charges by Henry VIII; once a defender of the Faith, later broke away from Christ’s Church.

Actually he was tried and executed on the Continent by the Holy Roman Empire, though Henry’s government was after him as well.
