In taking a medical terminology class, I came across a very excellent moral reflection
History comes from the greek “historia”
histo- : from histanai to cause to stand
-oria/orium: place for or thing used for
We derive our identities from our history, and that of those around us. It is what causes our identities to stand. The definition also implies tissue, that which we are made of, and the beam of a loom
To stand in faith implies:
resisting the gravity of concupiscence,
rising with the power of grace,
an idea best communicated by the countless stories of men and women beaten to the ground, and rising again, standing defiant and empowered,
of Christ picking up His cross.
The image of something like history causing us to stand, inspires me to share what causes me to stand, my faith history, and I invite anyone else so inspired to do the same:
What causes you to stand with Jesus?
What causes you to stand with His Church?
With His/our mother Mary?
What causes you to stand each day against the daily trials you face?
Normally, I would ask how best to communicate this, but really it comes down to one action. “To start”
Whether what you share is long or short, about you or another, please share and give us some real history, that we might all start to stand together as the one body of Christ.
