I wouldn’t advocate violence at all unless it is absolutely called for, and I’m sure Jesus felt that way too. The central message that Jesus preaches in the Gospel is that we are to treat each other well, and we don’t do that when we go up to the bully and punch him in the face. While we’re not talking about war, obviously, I’m pretty sure the Just War doctrine claims that violence must be a last resort when used

Christ said not to resist an evil person, and to “turn the other cheek” when hit. So if someone is bullying you, don’t resist them, try to befriend them or something, you could save their soul. However, if a bully just won’t stop and violence is just the only option, then use only as much as necessary. Don’t use lethal force if you only need to shove him off in order to run away and tell the police

I don’t think this is really such a grey area.We are on a Cathoilic forum,I think most folks get the geist of what Jesus taught on this.Action should only be used to stop someone from doing physical harm and should stop as soon as the threat has been neutrilized. This is after every other option has been applied. One should also becareful for their motivation to practice a martial art.The things martial arts will provide the serious student, fitness, staminia, fun, faster reflexes, strong technique, friendship, but the ablity to fight…maybe. The tools to increase ones odds of surviving a violent attack, yes if trained right. But this is the physical aspect,75% of fighting is MENTAL.You can only be bullied if you allow yourself to be.A bully feeds on fear and no matter what art you practice,if you have not overcome your fear, you will lose.Does’nt matter if you do taekwondo, kung fu,boxing or whatever.Eitherway, its better not to fight if you or your child can avoid it.But,if you must, you must committ wholehartly, stay in control of yourself and be,not afraid.
