So, I may be totally overreacting to this…but I’m feeling rather shaken, and I don’t know what to do about this.
Basically, my husband and I are great together. I have no doubt about our marriage. I came from a physically abusive household where I was beaten by my mom and dad. I married a man I trusted would never do this, and is kind of a big deal for me. Well, today we were playing a board game with some friends. I wasn’t understanding directions, and did something wrong, he started correcting me in extreme detail (something he’s known for doing) so I was teasing him a little about being kind of anal. Well, he got really mad and slapped me really hard on the leg. He’s never done that before, and while it was hard enough to hurt (but not badly) it shook me very badly. He apologized and said he felt really bad about it, and I told him I forgave him, but I still feel really shaken about this, and kind of scared. I never thought he’d hit me out of anger, and now that he has I’m very stand offish with him, and I feel really distanced, scared, and like I can’t trust him. I was making dinner and crying in the kitchen because this REALLY emotionally hurt…
Has this ever happened to anyone else? Is this normal? Do guys just do this all the time, where they hit when they are mad but not enough to hurt badly in any critical areas? Am I just overreacting? PLEASE HELP…
