MAN AM I EXCITED TO SEE THIS!
Who else is VERY HYPED about the film?

Not me. It’s not as if I just watched all three LotR movies (extended edition of course) in a single day… That would just be absurd

I am!!! I lived near Wellington, New Zealand while the Lord of the Rings trilogy was being filmed, and had friends who were orcs and elves. We all saw the movie twice - once to see the whole thing, and once to pick out the people we knew, and the places where it was filmed.

So, you’re saying that watching Middle-Earth movies could be . . . umm . . . hobbit-forming?

running and hiding now

😃

Definately Hobbit forming… 👍

I am hoping that one of the local theatures has a marathon of all the movies.

I have a serious hobbit, but I don’t need treatment…no I’m fine, I could quit any time I wanted to…

…but I DON’T want to!!!

I’m so hyped!
:extrahappy::whacky::hypno:

I am of short stature. My nickname wherever I go inevitably ends up being Frodo. Still, I am very excited. It will be a good movie, of that I am shire.

Strangely, not me. No one in my office can believe it! I lost count of the number that I watched LotR. I can’t imagine how P. Jackson could make three movies out of the Hobbit without inventing a lot of extra gunk. I thought I saw a part where Gollum and Bilbo were both swordfighting! So I’ll wait until it has been out awhile.

Not inventing stuff, just incorporating some of Tolkein’s other works.

But your right – two movies should have been enough.

No thank you. I read all 4 books ritualistically every year, for years. I have my own images and they don’t jive with Peter Jackson’s, especially his use of New Zealand as a location for the movies. The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings are ENGLISH stories, fully rooted in the ENGLISH countryside. Sure, there are mountains but those scenes could have been filmed in Wales. No offense to New Zealand or Kiwis - your country is beautiful beyond belief, but it’s NOT the setting Tolkien wrote about.

🤷

I will never watch these movies.

I’m a great lover of the books myself, and I also had a hard time accepting many of Jackson’s changes to the story in LOTR. However, I would dispute your notion regarding the geographic setting of the stories. The Shire corresponds roughly to England and the British Isles generally; but the action of the stories goes far outside the boundaries of the Shire. Take another look at the maps that are included with the books - the Misty Mountains, the mountains of Mordor and of Gondor are far larger than the mountains of Wales.

Some of the changes I can understand from a theatrical point of view. As awesome as he was, Tom Bombadil did nothing for the story, other than taking the Old Forest arguably makes more sense than taking the road. Glorfindel was in it for just the one scene, so it was easier to conflate him with Arwen. And even if you don’t like the change, can you at least agree that the Oathbreakers swarming the oliphants was pretty awesome?

Changes I didn’t like, however, included Faramir and Aragorn, Narsil, and the scouring of the Shire. Faramir wasn’t swayed by the Ring nearly as much as his brother was, but they were both weak in the movies. Aragorn is supposed to have wanted to be king this whole time. Narsil should have been with Aragorn, partly because one of my favorite scenes is at the Prancing Pony. The part where he stands over the hobbits and places his hand on Narsil’s hilt as if he was going to draw it (but doesn’t because a broken sword’s not so menacing). Finally, the scouring of the Shire is actually fairly plot important, and Jackson probably could have moved the Palantír into Two Towers to make room

That might just be the cooled thing I’ve heard all year lol!

And to answer the question… YES I am super excited about the Hobbit! I remember watching the cartoon as a kid lol! I am sure, no, POSITIVE this movie will be much better than that 🙂

I admit that three films might be a little much, but Jackson has stated that he is using unpublished notes and parts of other Tolkien’s work that were not in the books, but still tie the story together, so I don’t think you have to worry too much about him inventing the whole thing up. And one more thing, that WASN’T Gollum fighting Bilbo, it was a goblin. eeeeesh.

It helps me to know that some of the inaccuracies in the movies were oversights on Jackson’s part. The main example I can think of is Glamdring not glowing near goblins/orcs

I am reasonably sure that Glamdring does glow in the hobbit film, at least it looked like it does in the quarter second that I could make out in a TV spot.

Quite hyped. Unfortunately, my kids are not yet mature enough to handle the action (though my son might handle the book okay) and we are already spending enough on theater performances this Advent so I’ll likely have to wait until the DVD hits the $10 bin.
