"Hocus Pocus," anyone?

I know I saw it as a kid in the theater and I remember liking it at the time.
 
We have it here - somewhere. Very fun movie! So appropriate for this time of year. 😃
 
I just watched that movie for the first time. It was cute. Definitely got me in the mood for Halloween.

This is about the only Halloween movie I like, that and the old Universal monster flicks.

I don’t waste my time on the slice and dice flicks. Friday 13th, Halloween.
 
I haven’t seen it yet but remember it when it came out. I’m curious. Is it safe for kids?

Depends. What age & what are they used to?

Hocus Pocus has witches, spells, some scary stuff for real little kids, but a happy ending.

Tho being scared doesn’t mean the kids shouldn’t watch it. When I was little The Wizard of Oz terrified me. But I never had nightmares over it & I came to love it.
 
There’s a couple of off-color virgin jokes. That’s probably the most offensive thing in it.
 
My mom has a history of paranoid about anything related to witches in media. It’s since died down after she allowed herself to see the first Harry Potter movie and was all “THIS is what I’ve been so scared of?!” Nevertheless I arrived late to the Hocus Pocus party.

I remember 5 seconds after the guy lit the candle being the precise moment I understood what a virgin was. Up until then I had only associated the word with Mary and just understood it to mean a beautiful young woman or something like that. You’d think the word would have popped up once the year we learned about the reproductive system. So seeing that a boy could also be a virgin got the mental gears spinning.

I remember a SF story where the protagonist didn’t realize that “virgin” could apply to men. He realized his error just before being eaten by a virgin-eating monster. 🙂
 
Ever since my sophomore year in college it’s been a tradition of mine to watch it on Halloween. Besides Hocus Pocus, The Halloween Tree adds to the movie tradition.
