Is this a normal thing at your parish for like, families and such? I see it a lot and I think it’s a nice gesture but I’ve also heard it’s not recommended, per se.

To my understanding, and from what I was told, it isn’t proper to do so, as it makes the prayer more about ‘each other’ than about Our Lord. Despite the fact that many parishes do it, including our current one, we do not hold hands, even with each other. However, if someone around me was making a big deal about it, I would accept their hand; hopefully, this is not my only “Our Father” of the day or week. In general, we do not. We also do not mimic our Priest’s gestures or say his prayers along with him. Again, I’ve always been taught NOT to do so; if it is shown to me that it is correct or expected to do so, I will. However, I would need to know why it has changed, and have it explained it to me, along with direction from the proper authorities.
