Aside from our holy father, who do you consider to be the holiest men and woman in the church today and why? I need some time to think about this so I’m not going to answer right away.

With the deaths of both JPII and Mother T it seems were are w/out visible Saints on earth.

I don’t know about famous people, but one of the holiest people I can think of is an elderly woman I visit at a local nursing home. Betty is in constant pain but almost never complains, she continually offers her sufferings for the salvation of souls, and she has absolute confidence that God knows what is best for her through it all. She offers comfort, wisdom, and prayer support to fellow residents and even to nursing home staff/employees. The high point of her day is when she can receive Holy Communion.

I think some of the holiest people are the ones no one ever hears about — those who, like St. Paul, embrace suffering and “make up in their bodies what is lacking in the suffering of Christ for the sake of the Church.” (paraphrase of Colossians 1:24)

Wow, thank you! These are the kind of folks I love to hear about. I read recently in Faustina’s diary Jesus states that there are a few holy souls who keep the entire world from judegment in each generation because of their sacrafice, God bless Betty:)

I have a friend entering a Bendictine monastery and he just radiates holiness in quiet humility. 👍

Without searching, I would say … some little tiny infants who have just been baptized. They are the holiest ones. 😃

I think the holiest people in the Church today are not known because their holiness is hidden to all but a few who know them well. They are those who suffer in silence, as described above, but cheerfully, and in union with Christ. They are those who serve the least of these without recognition, for love of Christ, no other motivation, they are those who make heroic sacrifices of self, will, desire through adhering to Catholic moral teaching on marriage, sex and family.

The priest that I made my first confession after away from the Church for few years. He’s quiet and he always smile. Recently I read about his life and I’m truly amazed. He said that he couldn’t complain in seminary or he’d be out. He also mentioned that he prays Rosary daily for his mother since she passed away when he was a seminarian. He’s very faithful to his vocation. He’s 71/72 this year. A wonderful priest indeed. 🙂

Historically- I think the most inspirational and true members of Christ’s Church on Earth have been found amoung those who devote their entire lives to God, quietly, humbly living out the Gospel every day in the convents and monasteries.

Agreed. As for adhering to the moral teachings, that’s costly even for us sinners. Not like the gain would actually be worth it anyway.
