Holocaust Memorial Day

May all the Christian faithful remember the heinous act of genocide that was the Holocaust. May we continue to grow in love and respect of the Jewish religion and its adherents - and may we ensure that such a genocide never happens again.

I studies the Holocaust, including spending time at three of the death camps in Poland that included Auschwitz back in 1991. We spent two weeks there in Poland and then a week in Israel. It really leaves an impact on ya, needless to say.

After reading on another thread about the number of millennials that know little or nothing of Auschwitz, I wish ever district (where logistics allow) would make a visit to one of the Holocaust museums part of the core curriculum. I do not think anyone who has been ever forgets. For those without access, surely some traveling presentation could be arranged. Knowledge is the key to assuring this never happens again.

I am thankful that our Governor established January 27 as “Eva Education Day” in memory of a long-time resident who was an Auschwitz survivor. She and her family did just that prior to her passing — created a traveling presentation on her experience. Every school in the state was encouraged to view the documentary and/or engage in some related activities. (It’s one of the few positive things our governor can be credited with.)
