I’m not sure if this is the right forum for this question, but has anyone ever heard of the holy bread of Padre Pio? My neighbors (who are not Catholic) received this bread & passed it on to me. It comes with a paper that says it is “the bread of Padre Pio & comes from the Vatican. It brings good luck to every family that eats it. Remember you cannot refuse this bread once it is given to you & with these instructions you must use a wooden spoon.” After following the instructions, you eventually pass the bread on to 3 other people.
This might be based on a devout tradition, but the paper that comes with this bread seems pretty hoky, & doesn’t explain the tradition or who Padre Pio is. This seems pretty superstitious. Given the amount of anti-Catholic bias in our culture, I’m afraid passing on this bread & paper will fan the fire & cause some people to talk about those “crazy Catholics & their bread from the Vatican”. What do you think?
