My wife and I were in a slightly similar situation. I was the Catholic party and she was the convert. Granted, I was on my way back to the faith and wanted to do the convalidation.

Anyway, we emailed the priest. He directed us to speak with the parish’s deacon, and the deacon met with us and did the service to convalidate our marriage. I don’t know what resources your parish has. If you want a mass-with-the-priest celebration for your convalidation it will probably take much longer to organize. My wife and I were happy with a fifteen minute ceremony with the deacon. The deacon also knew us both personally, as my wife was in RCIA and I was attending parts of the classes and retreats with her, so that helped us as well. I hope your situation resolves as easily as mine did.

Well as Sunday I was just in shock as of how he said it all w the angry attitude and a tone in his voice. Monday I was just totally stressed out to the max and Tuesday I was kinda stressed and worried but trying to figure out a plan if the first one fails but can to the realization last nite that its gonna be what its gonna be and that I shouldn’t be all stressed out and worrying and making me sick from the stress of it all. So if its in God’s divine will for me to be able to take communion then it will be. I guess im just accepting whatever is going to be cause I really don’t have any control over it at all but for praying to God about it and hoping that hubs tells me yes that he will do it. I guess im just at peace w it but maybe will be disappointed and down if it doesn’t happen and I cant take communion.

Please be in prayer about this situation for me ( having Gods peace with me thru out this process of the RCIA and this situation) and that hubs would be acceptance into the blessing of the marriage so that I can take communion.

As many other posters have told you, this really shouldn’t be a problem unless one of you was married before and that spouse is still living. Assuming this is a first marriage for both of you, your pastor should be able to help you with a radical sanation, which does not require your husband’s consent. It will validate your marriage, and you will be able to receive Communion after you come into the Church.

Peace.

Thank you AnnArbor - yes this is our first marriage and didn’t have one prior to this one. I’ve heard a lot of different things about the radical sanation that is somewhat stressful in my situation if he doesn’t agree to do the marriage blessing ceremony to make the marriage valid so I can take communion . Thank you ever soo much for giving me encouragement and peace of mind about this whole thing I really do appreciate it !!!

You may talk to 100 people and get 100+ different solutions. Only a priest can help you. Please don’t give up or resort to any suggestions from here or what an rcia director tells you and do circumvent the church secretary if she cant give you an appointment to talk to your priest. Get your solutions directly from a priest.

Well im not giving up but going to follow protocol and let the RCIA director find out and tell me what my next step is in this situation and do it if my hubs decides not to do the marriage blessing ceremony.
