Holy Communion more than once a day

I have been trying to post this with no luck, so I will try again. Hope it isn’t a duplicate.

I will be attending Mass two times this weekend. One for Saturday night after a retreat, and another Sunday morning because I am a sponsor of a catechumen who will be received in the Catholic Church on the Easter Vigil. Can I receive Holy Communion both times?

The answer is: yes, you can receive both times.

You can receive communion twice in any day (24 hour period) provided that the second reception is during a Mass, which you must attend for the entire period (IOW, no popping in just at communion and popping out again).

P.S. Don’t forget the one hour fast applies to both receptions–fast on Saturday and fast again on Sunday.

I’ve received twice on a Sunday morning if I’ve attended two masses (once with my family at our “regular” time and a second with a confirmation candidate.).

Why can’t a person receive more than twice?? What would happen if someone decided to attend all 4 masses at our parish on Sunday and received at all 4? The priests receive at all masses.

Why can’t a person (as opposed to a priest) receive more than twice? (With, I must note, the addenda that, in danger of death, a person may receive more than twice daily)?

It’s the "succinctly, a person may receive Holy Communion twice a day" part – that is how that passage is interpreted by Saunders.

I interpret that if a person attended 3, 4, or 5 complete celebrations of the mass, they could receive each time. I agree with the popping in to just get the Eucharist should not be allowed, but think that if someone celebrates and participates in the entire mass, they would be able to receive. (priests do.) For example, if the same lay person served as a Eucharistic Minister at 4 masses, they would receive 4 times in 1 day.

I am a professional church musician and sometimes I play at 3 masses–Saturday vigil and twice on Sunday. I also play/fill in for the regular pianist at the Sunday evening Mass at my parish sometimes. I receive Holy Communion at all of them. I was told I could AND I looked it up in Canon law and found this to be correct. I feel very blessed to be able to receive Our Lord at these times.

That is exactly what I was thinking. I don’t see anything in Canon Law that “forbids” receiving multiple times. I completely forgot about our musicians. There are some weekends when we will have the same person either play piano/organ or cantor at all 5 masses (Sat. night and 4 on Sunday). They receive at all masses. They also attend and participate in ALL of the mass!
