Holy Communion/when person throws up the Host

What is the official procedure when a patient throws up the Host? What is the proper thing to do, if you cant consume it? John Healy

To place in a glass of water until dissolved and then to pour either down the sink at the Church, (can’t think of the proper name of that particular sink), or I do believe you are allowed to pour into the ground (such as around a plant or something.) Just can’t pour it anywhere though, has to be into the ground. You’ d have to have some other answers first though to back me up on that before you take my word for it.

have to watch out for this at first communion. some kids have a real gag reflex and spit up the host, only had one child actually vomit. contain product of the this action in a purificator, which is washed in the sacrarium. If there are discernable pieces the whole think is placed in a bowl of water until dissolved, then poured in this sink, and purificator rinsed, then cleaned as usual. if there is anything on the ground that is cleaned as well.

Prevention is the best thing, if possible. It’s not required that you receive Holy Communion at every Mass. If you find yourself feeling nauseated or queasy, simply don’t receive. Not so easy with the young children, but certainly older children and adults can make this decision ahead of time if they’re not feeling well.

Of course, there’s always the case when a person is overtaken by surprise, and then puzzleannie’s answer about cleaning comes into play.

That particular sink is called a sacrarium. It is usually found in the sacristy, and is constructed so that the drain goes directly into the ground, not into the sewer system.
