Let me preface this by saying that I’m relatively new to the faith (I was baptized many years ago but only just recently began practicing.) I made a concrete decision to become a Catholic only several days ago, and I’m going to try to go to church every Sunday.

I don’t quite understand Holy Communion. I know it originated when Jesus handed out the bread during the last supper and said “take this all of you and eat it, this is my body which will be given up for you.” I understand that he was referring to what was to come (his sacrificial crucifixion.) What I’m not getting is how it is spiritually nourishing to eat the body of Christ. Could someone explain?
