Methinks those people at the college had better make up thier minds as to what they want to be: Jesuit academics or faithful Catholics.

So sad that an order like the Jesuits, with such a history of doing good for the Church, has sunk so low into the morass of ambiguity and relativism.

Blessings,

Gerry
I fear they made that choice long ago. 😦

The question now is will the bishop go through with his implied threat?

What is taking place at Holy Cross, Georgetown, Creighton, San Diego, DePaul and elsewhere is so very sad. Please pray for the bishops that they lead with strength, moral conviction and compassion. Please.

Holy Cross College Hosts on-Campus Planned Parenthood Workshops, Awards Pro-Abortion Governor

Yet another Jesuit run college violating Catholic Church teaching
By Peter J. Smith

WORCHESTER, Massachusetts, September 28, 2007 (LifeSiteNews.com) - Jesuit-run Holy Cross, the oldest Catholic college in New England, is hosting the 2007 Teen Pregnancy Institute with Planned Parenthood promoting teenage contraception.

The Massachusetts Alliance on Teen Pregnancy presents the conference every year, but by hosting the conference the Holy Cross Jesuits are sending the message that they have no qualms with its promotion of contraception and the presence of Planned Parenthood, which are intrinsically inimical to the pro-life teachings of the Catholic Church.

At this year’s conference - scheduled October 24, from 8AM - 4 PM - “Messages that Matter: Strengthening Prevention and Supporting Young Families,” Planned Parenthood is scheduled to give 3 “workshops”; one of which includes a seminar on how to “Learn the latest and greatest of protection methods.” (see copy of brochure massteenpregnancy.org/pdfs/2007_conf_brochure.pdf)

What do you expect from the Jesuits? That order should be excommunicated, in my opinon. Their schools try their hardest to cover up their Catholicism, and promote far left liberalism (gay, abortion, etc). In my hometown, the University of Scranton has had pro-abortion keynote speakers, allow gay groups on campus, and even have a Muslim mosque on their campus. Jesuit schools are not only not Catholic, they stray to the side of anti-Catholic. I truly believe the Jesuits would be more comfortable with the Episcopal church.

Why aren’t they at least given warnings from the Vatican?

Yet another example of the Spirit of Vatican II.
True enough. One is reminded of the exhortation of Fr. Benedict Groeschel :

“If you meet the Spirit of Vatican II on the road, drive a stake though his heart.”

Blessings,

Gerry

Yes. See: freerepublic.com/focus/news/645814/posts

I though the Vatican had issued a statement that those who did not sign that they were faithful to the magestarium would not allowed to call themselves “Catholic”. Or am I confusing it with something else?

If you would like to send an email to Fr.McFarland voicing your distaste for this event…Please pray that Rev. McFarland will cancel this scandalous event. To contact Rev. McFarland, call 508.793.2525 or e-mail mmcfarla@holycross.edu.
It is a waste of time because Father MacFarland has already said that he won’t cancel the event.

I have sent emails to the Bishop and the Rev. Thomas Regan
explaining my displeasure of these workshops and their
support of Planned Parenthood.

Let’s keep up a barrage of our letters and emails. Over 30 years of working at getting abortion off the law books has not killed the pro-life effort. And along with our letters…let us pray as well. God can change hearts, through our efforts.

I am ashamed of all you mean spirited people picking on poor Michael C. McFarland, president of the College of the Holy Cross. The peddlers of death are just using space on his campus. Planned Parenthood and NARAL Pro-Choice Massachusetts only promote positions on artificial contraception and abortion that
are contrary to the moral teachings of the Catholic Church.

The Jesuit Father McFarland said in a statement released Oct. 10 that Holy Cross “has determined it will honor its contractual obligations.” Now doesn’t that sound like an honorable man to you? He is just trying to live up to his contractual obligation. I recall another priest that lived up to his contractual obligation, he was paid thirty pieces of silver for his contract.
I wonder when the Rev. McFarland is going to live up to his contract with God, made when he took the vow of obedience, at his ordination, and obey Worcester's Catholic bishop, Bishop Robert J. McManus, to cancel this unfortunate contract that would allow organizations such as Planned Parenthood and NARAL Pro-Choice Massachusetts to use a campus that calls itself a Catholic campus.

As much as it bothers me to see any Catholic college (well, ok, maybe not Georgetown) stripped of its Catholic identity, having Holy Cross lose this designation could result in something positive. Perhaps it will take something like this to cause other schools to take their own situations more seriously; that would certainly be a positive outcome. I assume that presidents of schools in Bishop McManus’s area will see the situation with more clarity.

For the rest of us, I suspect most will be saying something like: “Well it’s about time.” Anyone with children understands that you can’t continually preach and threaten without ever taking action or your children will simply ignore you. The same is true in every superior-subordinate relationship; all the more so when the subordinates don’t feel they have a superior to whom they are accountable.

Yes. With Holy Cross College praising pro-abortion advocates and inviting them to give commencement addresses, with their promotion of the lewd play V_monologues on Ash Wednesday, with their promotion of Planned Parenthood conferences advocating birth control methods on campus, they should lose their Catholic designation. And further, it turns out that the student health services at Holy Cross has been referring students to Planned Parenthood. This is also indicated from the telephone number given at the Holy Cross websiteL
