Holy Day in different diocese

So, for Jan 1st, I am away from my home diocese for vacationing… It’s a new area and I know where 1 church is. I checked their bulletin and it says that Jan. 1st is not a Holy Day of Obligation in their state (all the dioceses within the state). I’m from many miles away and I checked a bulletin from a local home church online and it said that my home diocese does celebrate the Holy Day (Different dioceses, many miles apart). Now, will I have to try and find a Mass for tomorrow due to the Holy Day or not?

Would I have to contact my home diocese/parish to seek a dispensation from the holy day? If so, can I email the priest concerning the matter?

The parish that we know of out here is closed for the next two days so I can’t contact them.

If you want to attend Mass and you know what diocese you are vacationing in you can try checking that website. It may have links to local parishes. Or you can try www.masstimes.org.

If it isn’t a Holy Day in the diocese where you find yourself, there is no real reason to treat it as one unless you just want to.

Ok, so he seems to say that I would be bound by the laws of the diocese I am currently visiting.

“A law of an episcopal conference or of a diocese regarding a day of precept to participate at Mass or a day of precept to observe penance is a particular law. These would be presumed to be territorial rather than personal laws.”

So, while I will attempt to go to Mass, it is not a Holy Day of Obligation for me as the local Diocese does not treat it as one.

I would still go to Mass anyway. It’s good to start the New Year on a positive note and what better way to kick off the New Year than to attend the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass!!
