I completely forgot about this, and did not go to mass yesterday evening (Saturday, dec 8th). I did go to msss today (Sunday) but in the evening at 5:30pm. Does this count or no? Should I confess in my next confession?

Sunday Mass doesn’t count for the Holy Day, but it’s only a sin if you purposely didn’t go knowing full well you were supposed to.
Be at peace

I agree with the others. It is only a sin if you purposefully do not attend.

Here is a good website to remind you of which days are Holy Days of obligation and which of those have been abrogated (only three are able to be abrogated): (Ack! You cannot include links in the posts. Just do a search on Catholic Holy Days of Obligation. You’ll find it.)

I presume you are in the US? as it wasnt a day of Obligation in every country. I asked my priest about this (I’m in England ) and he said it was a solemnity but not a Holy day of obligation here. I just mention this as a reminder as many different countries read these posts and just want to make sure we know that it differs in different countries.
I agree with the other’s but recommend you ask your priest.
