Holy Day of Obligation?

There is a parish near where I live that held an Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Mass this evening, the night before the actual Holy Day. Would this meet a Catholic’s obligation or would one still need to attend the Holy Day Mass tomorrow? Thank you.

Yes, a vigil mass satisfies the obligation.
 
Let’s think this through on a practical level. Do you think a parish is going to waste time and resources to offer a Mass that does not fulfill the people’s obligation and serves only to confuse the people? Generally, with the one notable exception of a penance service with general absolution, when a parish offers a Mass or service, it can be assumed that it fulfills one’s obligation. Trust your parish.

Hey guys, didn’t want to make another thread. Just a question if you guys could please help!

Are we required to receive Holy Communion on a holy day of obligation? I couldn’t since I couldn’t go to confession before mass.

Please reply anyone!
 
You’re only required to receive communion once day a year, ideally during the Easter season.

And Ed Farmer, White Sox broadcaster, told us that we can go to Mass Aug. 14 evening or Aug 15… it’s our choice. Since they are playing on the west coast you can even go to the 7PM Mass and not miss any of the game. All you ever need to do is listen to Ed. He’ll tell you when you need to go to Mass, fast, abstain, get to confession, bow, knell, stand, throw a knock down pitch, whatever.

Hawaii is the only place in the United States where there are only two holy days of obligation aside from Sundays.
